  • Report: T-Mobile and Sprint may agree to merger as soon as next week

Sprint and T-Mobile weave a complicated relationship. For years they’ve desired each other, drawn inexorably to that most corporate copulation: the merger. In a landscape run by AT&T and Verizon, the two star-crossed lovers have struggled separately to carve a little chunk of the world (including the US telecommunications market) for themselves. And, according to a report by Reuters, after a long and conflicted courtship, their paths and profits may soon be joined.

For a concise history of the T-Mobile/Sprint merger: First it was on, then it was off, then it was on again.

  • Samsung posts Q1 2018 financial results, tops expectations with record profits

It’s that time of the… quarter. 2018 Q1 financial reports are being published by most of the big tech names, and Samsung is likely pretty pleased with its performance so far this year. It isn’t quite as high as the impressive 2017 Q4 results it previously posted, but it’s sitting pretty with a total of KRW 60.56 trillion ($56 billion) in revenue, with KRW 15.64 trillion ($14.51 billion) in operating profit. That’s a revenue increase of 20% and an operating profit increase of over 50% compared to Q1 2017, beating expectations.

A glut of Samsung’s earnings came from continued demand in memory as well as its overall semiconductor foundry efforts.

  • Amazon Prime yearly subscription increasing to $119 starting in May

Renewals after June 16 will jump to new price.

Amazon’s Q1 2018 earnings were just released, and the company once again beat estimates. But during the analyst call, it wasn’t all good news — at least for customers. Amazon says that it will be increasing the yearly subscription price of Amazon Prime in the U.S. to $119 from the current $99.

This new price will go into effect for new Prime sign-ups starting on May 11, just a couple weeks away, while those of us who already have Prime won’t be hit by the price increase unless our renewals come due on or after June 16. Amazon will send out emails to current subscribers with details prior to the change.

The month-to-month subscription option, which is $12.99/month ($156/year) after receiving a price bump earlier this year, will remain.

Amazon just boosted its (already massive) Prime revenue with a single move.

Amazon recently revealed that it has over 100 million paid Prime members worldwide — not all of whom pay the …

  • Hi-Rez Studios’ mobile MOBA ‘Paladins Strike’ is available worldwide

Hi-Rez Studios is best known for their console and PC games. Most notably their 3rd-person MOBA Smite is one of their biggest successes, though many may have the opinion it has seen better days. It would appear that Hi-Rez is no longer satisfied with the console and PC market, as they are now branching out into mobile gaming with the release of Paladins Strike. If the name sounds familiar, that is because they already have a hero shooter available for consoles and PC called Paladins: Champions of the Realm. This release simply takes the characters and lore from that title to create an offshoot game that is better suited for for play on mobile.

  • Best apps for Samsung Phonecast right now

The Samsung Gear VR is great for watching video content, but if you want to watch apps that aren’t built for VR you’ll have to use Samsung Phonecast VR to take advantage of that virtual screen real-estate.

One of the drawbacks of the Gear VR is that not all apps are built to be immersive. But that doesn’t mean you can’t watch your favorite videos on a gigantic virtual screen. Samsung Phonecast VR places you in a picnic with a view of a 200 inch screen that can play videos from popular services such as YouTube, Sling TV, and more.

The viewing experience is very similar to using the Netflix app on the Gear VR and is a great way to feel like you’re in a cinema while you’re in a much smaller space. Here are some of the best apps to use with Samsung Phonecast right now.
