  • JBL’s $399 Android TV soundbar now up for pre-order, sales kick off in Oct.

JBL’s Link Bar is an Assistant-integrated soundbar that’s also an Android TV device.

JBL announced the Link Bar — a $399 soundbar that doubles up as an Android TV device along with Google Assistant integration — back at I/O 2018, and we now have mode details on availability. The Link Bar is now up for pre-order on B&H Photo for $399, and retail availability is set to kick off from October 16.

As spotted by Android Police, the soundbar offers a PrivacySwitch option that lets you mute the microphones when not using Assistant, and there’s also the option to stream music directly to the device as it also has Bluetooth functionality.

Hands-on: JBL Link Bar soundbar with Android TV and Google Assistant

The Link Bar is turning out to be one of the more interesting products in this space, as you’re essentially getting an Android TV box in addition to an Assistant-integrated soundbar for the price of a Google Home Max. If you’re interested, hit up the link below to pre-o…

  • Gboard v7.5 prepares clipboard integration, hotkey shortcuts for Chrome OS, and more [APK Teardown]

The latest Gboard update landed a couple of days ago with “Minis” sticker packs, a feature developed originally  for the Allo messenger. However, as the story often goes with Gboard, there’s still more to be seen with a teardown. There are the first hints about clipboard integration and some kind of hotkey support for Chrome OS. Follow-ups are also here for a previously spotted floating keyboard and the morse code input introduced earlier this year.

  • [Deal Alert] Samsung Chromebook 3 is $130 from Best Buy

These days, there are countless mid-range Chromebooks to choose from – HP’s new convertible, the Samsung Chromebook Plus V2, the ASUS C302, and so on. But if you need a dirt cheap model, Best Buy has the 11.6-inch Samsung Chromebook 3 for just $129.99 right now.

As you can probably guess, the specifications aren’t great. It has a dual-core Celeron N3060 processor, an 11.6-inch 1366×768 screen, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of eMMC storage.

  • A notch too far? Back to the drawing board for Google

Some say Google deliberately leaked the Pixel 3 XL so people would get used to the notch. Are we getting used to the big notch or should Google go back to the drawing board? After a day with a simulation of it on my phone, I have an answer.(This is a p…

  • Twitch Prime is dropping ad-free viewing in September

Twitch Prime’s list of perks is getting a little thinner starting next month.

Twitch Prime is a great way to earn a load of extra goodies if you consume a lot of content on the streaming service. Since launch, the company has given out free monthly channel subscriptions, free games, and in-game loot as part of the program. But there’s one perk that’s about to get the ax: ad-free viewing.

In an update posted to its blog today, Twitch announced that it will cut ad-free viewing from its Twitch Prime benefits for new subscribers starting on September 14. The reason? A re-evaluation of existing benefits as the company “[continues] to add value to Twitch Prime.” From the post:

Advertising is an important source of support for the creators who make Twitch possible. This change will strengthen and expand that advertising opportunity for creators so they can get more support from their viewers for doing what they love. We want Twitch to remain a place where anyone can enjoy one-of-a-ki…

  • Amazon Prime’s 20% discount on video game pre-orders ends next week

It’s game over for this Prime discount.

Amazon is continuously updating Prime memberships with new features and bonus offers, and there have been a few nice ones which are great for gamers, like Twitch Prime which offers free PC games to members every month. One of the best discounts that Prime currently offers is 20% off physical game pre-orders; that takes a $60 game down to $47.99, but unfortunately, Amazon just announced that the discount is coming to an end on August 27.

With the demise of Best Buy’s Gamers Club Unlocked in May of this year, it was only a matter of time before Amazon ended its pre-order discount too, as it was seemingly started to compete with GCU’s 20% discount on video games. Luckily though, Amazon is once again following Best Buy’s lead and will begin offering a $10 promo credit with the purchase of select video games beginning August 28. There is a benefit to this new offer. Though you might not earn as much back as you do on a $60 game with the current di…

  • Black Pixel 3 XL caught on camera in the wilds of Canada

Pixel 3 XL details have been leaking from Google like a sieve recently. Just earlier today, our Canadian friends at MobileSyrup were tipped off with a set of photos showing a phone which looks to be the Pixel 3 XL in all its exceptionally notched glory.  This is also the first time we’ve spotted one in the expected black colorway in use, as the previous engineering sample leaked back in June was unable to boot.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note9 durability test finds removable buttons are the closest thing it has to a real physical weakness

Do you judge a smartphone by its weakest components? In his most recent durability test on the JerryRigEverything channel, YouTuber Zack Nelson identified one slightly-less-sturdy element of the otherwise highly durable Samsung Galaxy Note9: the buttons, which are removable and pop out easily just by prying with a fingernail.

Is this actually an issue? In reality, probably not. The buttons are tethered in strongly enough that a fall wouldn’t likely send the buttons tumbling.
