  • [Deal Alert] Here are 25 temporarily free and 65 on-sale apps, plus the other 0.10 App of the Week

It’s the middle of the week again, which means that we’re back again with some more app sales! Today’s list is quite a monster, so let’s not waste too much more time. If you’re interested in what appeared on Monday, be sure to go back and check that post. As always, the free apps will remain in your library unless you uninstall them within the Play Store’s refund window. It’s just like buying an app in that regard.

  • Android O feature spotlight: The proxiomity sensor can turn off ambient display

Ambient display on the Android O developer preview is doing some odd things right now. It’s showing a minimal and less useful UI for some people, while others see something more akin to the old version. Whatever is going on there, we do know of one small (but useful) change to ambient display in O—covering the proximity sensor now puts the phone back to sleep.

In Nougat and earlier, ambient display won’t kick on if the proximity sensor is covered.

  • Huawei P10 and P10 Plus hitting Canada on June 6

The Huawei P10 and P10 Plus will come to Canada just in time for the summer.

Huawei’s P series will be sold at a North American carrier for the first time ever starting June 6, as Canadian providers are set to sell the P10 and P10 Plus.

The company’s newest flagship phones do a lot of things right — and, unfortunately, one thing very wrong — but they stand up well to the competition from Samsung, LG and others. And with no HTC flagship launching in Canada this summer, the P10 and P10 Plus should stand in nicely.

The smaller P10 will be sold at Bell, Videotron, Fido and Rogers in black. Rogers, which has an excellent existing relationship with Huawei, will sell the P10 in both gold and black, and will exclusively stock the larger P10 Plus in black, with the blue variants of both phones coming out later this summer, again as Rogers exclusives.

  • Google app v7.3 beta prepares for podcast subscriptions, data saver for Now Cards, and more [APK Teardown]

    google

Version 7.3 of the Google app began rolling out to users in the beta channel earlier today. There are a few odd little changes to be found poking around in the UI, like a new menu shortcut on many of the Assistant settings screens that leads to the Activity Controls settings, but it’s all pretty innocuous. We’ll surely see more significant features going live as Google activates them remotely over the coming weeks™.

  • Verizon’s LG K8 V is getting an update to Android 7.0 Nougat

  • Android Pay expected to come to Canada on May 31

Canadians have been waiting a long time for Android Pay, and it looks like the wait is almost up.

Android Pay is set to come to Canada on May 31, according to internal documents received by MobileSyrup. Google made the announcement earlier this month at its annual developer conference, but neglected to spell out a specific date. If the leak is to be believed, Canadians should be able to use their Android phones to pay at contactless-enabled retailers starting early next month.

It’s not clear which banks and payment processing systems will support Android Pay, but like Apple Pay it will likely be Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Interac, with all five major banks on board from the beginning.

Rumor has it that Android Pay took so long to come north of the border because Interac, Canada’s de facto debit standard, required significant internal restructuring to support Google’s payment system. A similar reason was given for Apple Pay’s delay, which was more than a year after it l…

  • [Deal Alert] Get $15 off purchases of $75 or more on eBay for today only

eBay periodically offers site-wide discounts, and today the site is bringing it back again. From now until 8PM Pacific Time/11PM Eastern Time, you can save $15 on almost any purchase of $75 or more.

There are a few minor catches; gift cards and coupons are not eligible, and your total has to be greater than $75 excluding shipping, handling, and taxes. You also can’t use this discount on eBay Real Estate – $15 off a new house probably wouldn’t do much good anyways.
