  • Black Pixel 3 XL caught on camera in the wilds of Canada

Pixel 3 XL details have been leaking from Google like a sieve recently. Just earlier today, our Canadian friends at MobileSyrup were tipped off with a set of photos showing a phone which looks to be the Pixel 3 XL in all its exceptionally notched glory.  This is also the first time we’ve spotted one in the expected black colorway in use, as the previous engineering sample leaked back in June was unable to boot.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note9 durability test finds removable buttons are the closest thing it has to a real physical weakness

Do you judge a smartphone by its weakest components? In his most recent durability test on the JerryRigEverything channel, YouTuber Zack Nelson identified one slightly-less-sturdy element of the otherwise highly durable Samsung Galaxy Note9: the buttons, which are removable and pop out easily just by prying with a fingernail.

Is this actually an issue? In reality, probably not. The buttons are tethered in strongly enough that a fall wouldn’t likely send the buttons tumbling.

  • JBL Link Bar Android TV and Assistant-equipped soundbar hits pre-order for $400

A soundbar, an Android TV box, and a Google Assistant speaker. A soundbar, an Android TV box… are you getting it? These are not three separate devices; this is one device, and JBL is calling it ‘Link Bar.’ We first heard about the Link Bar right before I/O kicked off earlier this year, and we got an in-person demo at the event. This fancy sound bar is now available for pre-order at B&H for $399.95, which isn’t a bad price at all for what you get.

  • WhatsApp backups will no longer count against Google Drive storage

The change goes into effect on November 12, 2018.

There are a number of reasons to use WhatsApp, and for a lot of users, one of the biggest lies with just how easy it is to create and update backups of your conversations. If you store these backups on Google Drive, we’ve got some good news.

Starting November 12, 2018, WhatsApp backups will no longer count against your Google Drive storage limit. This is a result of a new partnership between WhatsApp and Google, and in an email being sent out, Google notes that some people might “see the quota benefits earlier.”

Along with this, it’s also noted that any WhatsApp backups that haven’t been updated in over a year will automatically be removed from your Google Drive storage.

To ensure that none of your data is accidentally erased, Google recommends manually backing up your WhatsApp account by October 30, 2018, if it’s not already updated.

  • Source: Samsung is working on a massive 17″ Android tablet, and it’s coming to AT&T

Speaking to Android Police, a source familiar with the company’s plans has revealed that Samsung will launch an enormous 17″ Android tablet known as the Galaxy View 2.

Three years ago, Samsung announced the Galaxy View (the device pictured above), an 18.4″ tablet running Android 5.1. While it was absolutely ridiculous, there really was no other device like it on the market, and at a starting price of $600, it actually wasn’t a horrible value.
