The iHeart health-monitoring devices now have an Android companion app.
VitalSines’ iHeart health monitoring devices now have an Android companion application, after the company released an iOS application near the end of last year. Rather than calculating exercise data that Android Wear would collect, the iHeart devices focus on calculating the internal age of a user’s body.
The sensor itself clamps around a user’s index finger and displays an approximate internal age, an average heart rate, blood oxygen level and other statistics. The data can be used to predict whether a user will suffer from heart diseases and dementia, so the user is able to adjust their daily patterns and stave off those diseases. The iHeart was released after a successful Indiegogo campaign for iOS users, and now Android users can get in on the action.
The iHeart monitor is available on the company’s website for $195.

Google has been working with its partners to get the Oreo update out by the end of the year.
While Google’s first party devices get new Android releases immediately, the same can’t be said for partner devices. Since these devices comprise the vast majority of Android devices, we run into situations like Nougat only being available on 13% of all Android devices a year after release.
But there may be cause for hope: tucked in the Android Oreo announcement post was this quote:
We’ve also been working closely with our partners, and by the end of this year, hardware makers including Essential, General Mobile, HMD Global Home of Nokia Phones, Huawei, HTC, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sharp and Sony are scheduled to launch or upgrade devices to Android 8.0 Oreo.

There aren’t many Android faithful who have been able to make the trip to Mountain View to see the impressive gathering of statues Google has commissioned to commemorate each launch of its OS, but those who have been are in for a treat. Google has uploaded the Android 8.0 Oreo system images.
For those that want to be on the bleeding edge, the Android 8.0 Oreo system images are now available. Google has the images for last year’s Pixel phones, the Nexus 6P and 5X, the Nexus Player and the Pixel C. Manually updating a device requires a few tools and a bit of time, but it’s an easy process overall. There are carrier-specific images for the Pixel phones, so make sure you download the right one for your device.
For users that were on the Developer Preview, you should be receiving two Over the Air (OTA) updates to the stable version of Oreo. Depending on the device and version of the developer preview you’re on, the first file should only be between 12MB and 50MB. The secondary update file clocks in at 900MB, so you’ll want to be on WiFi for that one.

Google just took the wraps off Android 8.0 Oreo, which we’ve known only as Android O for the last few months. The source code is being pushed to AOSP today, but OTA updates are still in process. The system images are live right this minute, though. If you’ve got a compatible device and an unlocked bootloader, you can be on Android Oreo in just a few minutes.

Google’s last couple of Android statues have been thoroughly underwhelming. David was so incensed by the lack of effort that went into ‘Bugdroid holding a marshmallow’ and ‘Bugdroid surrounded by 3 bits of nougat’ that he even wrote an article lamenting them. Someone at Google must have been reading because Android 8.0 Oreo’s statue is the most impressive for some time: a moving robotic Super Oreo-themed Bugdroid, no less.

At least, the announcement came with a moving robot statue (above with AP alumnus Liam), though it looks like the actual statue is of a similar design but just without the motion (below).
