Late yesterday IFTTT saw a huge update. There are more than 30 new services tied to the automation tool via the new Data Access Project, including a ton of government and travel data sources. There is even a new Google Photos service that interfaces with the platform, as well as a VoIP feature for applets that use the phone service. Now you can set up IFTTT alerts on subjects like the economy and public transit, as well as upload images to Google Photos.
The new VoIP service for phone applets will be helpful for those who are traveling internationally, as you’ll be able to set those triggers and actions to occur over data.

Action Launcher 3 is getting a significant makeover, starting with the name. No more will it be known as Action Launcher 3—now it’s just Action Launcher. There are a lot of banks in the US. How do I know? Google is still finding banks to add to Android Pay. A new batch of fine financial institutions have been added to the list—60 of them, in fact. This is one of the largest expansions of Android Pay to date.
The new institutions are mostly smaller banks and credit unions. All the big guys have added support by now.

While Android Pay may have stolen the thunder in terms of Google’s various methods of moving money from one party to another, Wallet is still up and running for those times when you’ve just got to move a few bucks between friends. The latest update looks basically identical to the last few versions, but a teardown of the app shows there are going to be a few changes to the security model that should reduce a little bit of friction and make the app much more convenient than it was in the past.

Another day, another phone to get Android 7.0 Nougat. This time it’s the 2016 AT&T LG K10’s turn. This particular phone has been a bit ignored by AT&T. Their support page shows this is only the 2nd update the device has ever received. At least the jump to Nougat includes the April 1st security patches, so it should be reasonably secure for some time if AT&T doesn’t keep it up to date.

Changes coming to the way Google delivers ads within Gmail.
Google has decided to bring the consumer version of Gmail in alignment with the G Suite version of its widely popular email service, which is great news for the billion-plus users around the world. In a recent blog, after bragging about how popular its G Suite business has become amongst the enterprise community, Google announced that it would no longer scan consumer Gmail content for any ad personalization.
Currently, the free version of Gmail will scan the contents of your inbox for topics and then deliver relevant ads within Gmail. The example Google uses on its support page on the topic is if you’ve received a number of messages about photography or cameras, it might send you a targeted ad for a deal at a local camera store. My first smartphone was from HTC — the Treo 750. Over the years I’ve used more HTC devices than I can even remember, from the Nexus One up through today’s flagship, the U11. Not every phone has been a winner, but more often than not I (and others, of course) came to the conclusion that basically went “This is a hell of a phone. It’s a shame they never manage to sell better.”
HTC has a company has changed a lot since then. And I don’t have the slightest idea if the U11 will spark some massive turnaround in a business sense. Or if it even needs to, for that matter. But this much is clear: Look at this phone. That mirror finish is ridiculously cool, and makes me not care about fingerprints.
