Thursday, August 23rd, 2018

Are you ready for a surprise? Paranoid Android/AOSPA, of long-standing ROM fame, has just pushed out a status update on the project's plans, as well as the first ever Oreo releases for the ROM. Unfortunately for the vast majority of us, they're only available for a handful of Sony phones.

Paranoid Android/AOSPA should be a very familiar name for those that ROMed back in the Jelly Bean era. The project was even pushing out releases as recently as last May, though the most recent major update was nearly a year ago.

Update to Android Oreo 8.0 rolling out to Sony Xperia X and X Compact

Monday, February 5th, 2018

Sony has started rolling out an update to Android Oreo 8.0 to its Xperia X and Xperia X Compact phones. The version has build number 34.4.A.0.364 and is a little over one gigabyte to download.

The Xperia X was first announced in Q2 2016 and eventually launched in the US later that summer to somewhat unfavorable reviews. In his experience with the device, Ryan considered the camera to be mediocre, the lack of a fingerprint reader unacceptable, and the MSRP of $550 much too high — though the price did fall by a significant amount not too long after the phone came out.

The Xperia X is an upper-mid range (is that even a thing?) phone from Sony, which arrived in the United States about a year ago. It was pretty expensive for the specifications when it was released, priced at $549 in the US. But since then, it has continued to drop in price, and now you can get it for $214.99 from Amazon and B&H - the lowest price we've seen yet.

[Deal Alert] B&H DealZone has the US unlocked Xperia X for $230

Tuesday, July 18th, 2017

Unlike what B&H would like you to believe, the Sony Xperia X hasn't retailed for $399 in a long time. Actually, it's been hovering around the $300 mark since the end of 2016 and has recently dipped to and stayed at $250 on Amazon. However, if B&H wants to call this a DealZone deal, then we shall call it a DealZone deal, even if it's only $20 less than other stores.

Android 7.1.1 rolls out to the Xperia X and X Compact

Thursday, June 22nd, 2017

Until recently, it almost seemed like most phone manufacturers were skipping Android 7.1 in favor of the upcoming Android O release. Thankfully, we've seen several manufacturers start to push 7.1 updates to at least some of their devices, and Sony's Xperia X and X Compact phones are up next.

If you're not familiar with the phones, the Xperia X was launched at MWC 2016, and the X Compact was announced later in September.

[Deal Alert] Get a Sony Xperia X Performance for just $299.99 ($200 off) from B&H and Amazon

Thursday, May 4th, 2017

Sony's new Xperia X line of phones was considered a bit overpriced when it launched. However, as all phones tend to do after time, they've since dropped in price.
