Android 9 Pie stable is rolling out to the Xiaomi Mi A2

Friday, November 16th, 2018

The stable release of Android 9 Pie appears to be going out to Xiaomi Mi A2 handsets right now. It includes lots of the features Pixel phones have now had for some time, including adaptive battery, gesture navigation (crap though it may be), and app actions.

The Mi A2 is an Android One phone, so it's not unexpected that it would be among the first non-Google phones to get stable Pie — it probably should have come a little sooner, if anything.

Xiaomi is bringing its Black Shark gaming phone to Europe on November 16

Friday, November 9th, 2018

Xiaomi released its gaming phone, the Black Shark, in China last April. The black and neon green device packs some impressive specs for its modest price, including a Snapdragon 845 and either six or eight gigs of RAM. At the time, there was no word on whether it'd be coming to the rest of the world, but now, the company has announced that it'll release in Europe on November 16.

Xiaomi enters UK market with Mi 8 Pro, Band 3, and much more, targeting budget-conscious consumers

Thursday, November 8th, 2018

Considering it was only founded in 2010, Xiaomi's rise has been meteoric. It's now the fourth largest smartphone maker in the world, leading the field at home in China and in the second largest market, India. This year has seen the company's expansion into Western Europe, where it's already reached number four in sales despite only selling in a handful of countries so far. That position is set to be bolstered by Xiaomi's official launch in the UK.

Xiaomi Poco F1 review: Mucho phone for un poco price

Saturday, November 3rd, 2018

In the smartphone world, Xiaomi is the epitome of value for money. Now ranked fourth worldwide, it sells nearly one of every ten smartphones. But when companies start operating at such a large scale, the start-up mentality takes a backseat to more important considerations, and innovation can be stifled.

Oppo circumvented it with the "independent" OnePlus, Huawei spun off Honor for Western markets, and Xiaomi is taking an approach somewhere in the middle.

The joys, disappointments, and sorrows of using MIUI on the Poco F1 (updated)

Friday, November 2nd, 2018

We don't often discuss Xiaomi's software layer here on Android Police, but it isn't for lack of desire to. Most of our team lives in the US where Xiaomi doesn't officially operate and, even if we were to import units there, they wouldn't be compatible with most carriers' LTE bands.

The joys, disappointments, and sorrows of using MIUI on the Poco F1

We don't often discuss Xiaomi's software layer here on Android Police, but it isn't for lack of desire to. Most of our team lives in the US where Xiaomi doesn't officially operate and, even if we were to import units there, they wouldn't be compatible with most carriers' LTE bands. I'm based in Lebanon, and the first limitation applies here as well, but imported devices do work (we have LTE band 3), so I've been trying to get my hands on some of the companies' phones to test them out.

Xiaomi is expanding into the UK market from November 8th

Friday, October 26th, 2018

It's the fourth largest smartphone brand on the planet, and yet Xiaomi doesn't directly sell devices in some of the biggest markets such as the US and the UK. There have been rumors about an entry into the US market late this year or in early 2019, but before that, the Chinese company is officially launching in the UK on November 8th.

This follows a successful expansion into the Spanish, French, and Italian markets already this year.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 unveiled with slide out front cameras and practically no bezel

Thursday, October 25th, 2018

Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has revealed its latest flagship phone and, as we've come to expect, it's stunning. The Mix series has always been about pushing the boundaries of what's possible, and the Mi Mix 3 is no different. Just as Xiaomi already teased, the front of the device is nearly bezel-less thanks to a sliding mechanism that hides the dual front-facing cameras (24MP + 2MP).

Unlike the Oppo Find X, there's no motor to rely on; this magnetic slider is hand-operated.

Xiaomi Black Shark Helo gaming phone sports OLED display and 10GB of RAM

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2018

Xiaomi announced the Black Shark gaming phone just a few months ago, and it's already time for a sequel. The Black Shary Helo makes a few minor changes to the hardware, but it still has that distinctly "gamer" aesthetic. By which I mean it glows.

Like the previous Black Shark, this phone has a Snapdragon 845 with vapor chamber cooling and a big 4,000mAh battery. There's a customizable glowing logo on the back of the phone along with a fingerprint sensor and two cameras (12+20MP).

Xiaomi Mi Box S bundle comes with Google Home Mini for $85 ($24 off)

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2018

Xiaomi announced the Mi Box S on October 9, on the same day as Google's Pixel 3 et al. announcements. This new Android TV box from the company keeps its cheap pricing, but you wouldn't say no to more savings, would you? In that case, you can now grab the Mi Box S along with a Home Mini for $24 off the total price of both.

While the Mi Box S isn't the highest-specc'ed media streamer, it'll do its job just fine and play 4K HDR video.
