Sprint joins competitors in offering a rewards app full of mediocre coupon deals

Tuesday, January 15th, 2019

As T-Mobile and Sprint's merger sits on hold during the government shutdown, Sprint has taken a leaf from its future business partner and launched a rewards program. My Sprint Rewards, much like T-Mobile Tuesdays and the similar offerings from Verizon and AT&T, is essentially a coupon app, offering discounts on things like clothing and fast food, or allowing users to enter larger draws for free vacations.

Unlike T-Mobile Tuesdays, there's no specific day of the week that rewards are released - deals will be added "regularly" and customers are encouraged to check back often.

Speaking to a source familiar with the company's plans, we've learned that Google intends to launch two new Pixel smartphones on Verizon in early spring 2019 - the Pixel 3 and 3 XL "Lite." Verizon V30 update brings handful of new camera features, always-on display tweaks, and recent monthly patches

Tuesday, December 18th, 2018

The V30 may be over a year old at this point, but the Verizon version was updated just yesterday with a handful of new features, including some camera functionality tweaks and additional always-on display modes inherited from the newer G7. The security patch level has also been bumped up to November 2018.

The full changelog is available over at Verizon, but the short version is that this update delivers portrait mode to the front-facing camera (complete with adjustable blur) and a new "Flash Jump-Cut" mode that captures and creates GIFs based on a 3 second timed capture, in addition to those always-on display changes.

Thursday, December 6th, 2018

RCS has been a long time coming, but the last few carrier holdouts in the US are finally starting to push out support for the "enhanced messaging" standard. Earlier this year, T-Mobile rolled the feature out to the Galaxy S7, then the S8, and now Verizon is joining in on the fun a bit earlier than originally expected, pushing out RCS support to Google's latest Pixel 3 and 3 XL starting this morning.

Saturday, November 24th, 2018

Google's Home Hub and the Lenovo's Smart Display might be the most popular Assistant-based smart displays this Black Friday — we figured the hardest decision people would have was between the two — but they're not the only Assistant-game in town. JBL's Link View is an option for those that prioritize audio over video. And if you want to pick one up for cheap, Verizon has it for just $150 right now.

Verizon RCS Universal Profile support arriving in early 2019

Tuesday, November 20th, 2018

Verizon is looking to launch RCS text messaging in early 2019, according to the company's SVP of consumer products Apart Khurjekar. Khurjekar took the stage at a New Jersey GSMA event to make the announcement, along with a wealth of less interesting tidbits about business messaging. This appears to be the catalyst behind Verizon's sudden interest in bringing RCS to fruition, but I think we can all be thankful that something has spurred the carrier to improve the current state of messaging.
