International roaming for Project Fi and T-Mobile US had nearly day-long outage

Sunday, January 14th, 2018

Project Fi users around the world have reported on Reddit that they are being disconnected from roaming networks after 30-60 seconds of activity, starting late Friday, Pacific Standard Time. Perhaps not coincidentally, T-Mobile US subscribers have also reported similar problems when roaming. Given that mobile phones are a vital lifeline for travelers, particularly when navigating language barriers, roaming outages have the potential to be a distinctly harrowing experience.

Users in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Germany, Spain, Dubai, and Bahrain chimed in on the Reddit threads that they had lost service.

[Deal Alert] T-Mobile Galaxy S7 manufacturer refurb is $214.99 on eBay

Saturday, January 13th, 2018

It's not often that an eBay seller offers better deals that can be found on sites like eBay, Swappa, or Craigslist, but that's the case with this manufacturer-refurbished Galaxy S7. For just $214.99, you can have a 2016 flagship with very little to no damage that many people still use today. Just make sure that you're on T-Mobile.

In case you've forgotten, the Galaxy S7 sports a 5.1" 1440p AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage with microSD expansion, a 12MP main camera, a 5MP selfie-shooter, and a 3,000mAh battery.

The US smartphone market is devolving into a Samsung and Apple market – and that’s bad for Android

Friday, January 12th, 2018

If you live in the United States and walk into a Verizon store, you have essentially four options when it comes to choosing a premium smartphone brand: Apple, Samsung, LG, and Google. Yesterday, we learned that continuing to expect LG will be one of these options probably isn't the best bet.

While there may yet be a premium LG phone that launches on Verizon, the Korean conglomerate looks poised to join Motorola as one of Verizon's when-it's-convenient handset partners, and is quite possibly on its way to the Verizon graveyard with the likes of HTC, Sony, and BlackBerry.

T-Mobile US adds 1.9m customers in Q4, totaling 5.7m for 2017

Thursday, January 11th, 2018

After the T-Mobile US / Sprint merger talks dissolved for a second time, the magenta-themed carrier looks to be in a much stronger position to go it alone, as the company has announced a net addition of 1.9 million subscribers in Q4 2017, of which 891,000 are postpaid accounts.

T-Mobile added a total of 5.7 million subscribers for all of 2017, with 3.6 million of those being postpaid accounts. In addition to being the fourth year in a row in which T-Mobile added over 5 million new subscribers, the company claims that this marks the sixteenth quarter in a row in which it has led in customer growth, compared to the other major US mobile network operators.

Friday, January 5th, 2018

HTC released the Android 8.0 Oreo update for its midrange U11 life on T-Mobile in December, but if somehow you haven't received the OTA yet and you'd like to flash it manually, you can do so now that the RUU file is available.

It's starting to take quite a while for HTC to publish RUU files after the OTA begins rolling: the unlocked U11 life's took a little less than 2 weeks and now the T-Mobile one has taken even more.

Friday, December 29th, 2017

Motorola announced which phones would receive Android 8.0 back in August. The Verizon Z2 Force was first to get the update, but now it looks like the T-Mobile model is up next. A few Z2 Force owners on T-Mobile have received the Oreo update notification, indicating that a mass rollout may start soon (if it hasn't already).

We have received two reports of the update, and there are a few on Reddit and other sites.

T-Mobile wants to ‘Un-carrier’ television with its own service

Thursday, December 14th, 2017

T-Mobile has announced today that it's going to "Un-carrier" your TV with its own new service in 2018, and the company just took its first step by buying Layer3 TV, an online television provider. The motivation behind the move? John Legere—T-Mobile's exuberant CEO—says that, since T-Mobile is already disrupting the 2nd most hated industry in America, it may as well set its sights on the first: cable and satellite TV. That's...

[Deal alert] Get a BlackBerry KEYone for just $449.99 ($100 off)

Monday, November 27th, 2017

If you're still nostalgic for the good times when BlackBerry's physical keyboards were all the rage, the last vestige of this dying form factor is the BlackBerry KEYone, which was announced at MWC early this year. Despite its flaws, Jordan found a lot to like in his review of the device so it could be worth a go at a decent price.

A $100 saving on the MSRP of $549.99 would do the trick, and that's exactly what Amazon and Best Buy are currently offering.
