Up-close look at Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition ‘mainboard’ confirms see-through chicanery

Monday, July 30th, 2018

A few months back, Xiaomi attracted attention for the transparent Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition. Of course, it wasn't all positive attention. The phone has an improbable window on the back with components neatly arranged in a grid. We were skeptical from the start because that's not how real circuit boards look, and now a picture of the actual component confirms this is just a fake model of a PCB.

Xiaomi was adamant back in May that the components inside the Mi 8 Explorer Edition were "real," and now we know it apparently only meant that in the sense that the components aren't just a sticker.

Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 850 is a processor built with laptops in mind

Tuesday, June 5th, 2018

Qualcomm seems to be changing its processor naming strategy once again, because logically, you'd think the Snapdragon 850 would be the next iteration of its flagship mobile platform, but in fact it's just a Snapdragon 845 designed with laptop and similar form factors specifically in mind.

Wednesday, May 30th, 2018

LG just revealed the latest flagship to bear the V-name, and on paper, it looks to be an incredibly iterative improvement over last year's phone (or this spring's phone). Available Friday, June 8th, the new V35 ThinQ packs the latest Snapdragon 845 into a body that is otherwise functionally identical to the previous V30S ThinQ, down to the same camera, battery, and display. And AT&T would like you to spend $900 to get one.
