Google says recurring reminders on Android Wear are fixed (again)

Friday, October 27th, 2017

The saga of recurring reminders on Android Wear has been a long and dramatic one. For the uninitiated, some saw their recurring reminders on Android Wear being regularly marked as done and disappearing without having seen them. First, it was broken, then it was fixed, then it wasn't actually fixed. But today it's fixed. Again. Probably. We'll see.

We've been following the support thread for the issue over on Google's product forums for a while, and recently a Googler spoke out in the thread claiming that this bug had, in fact, been fixed.

Google Wallet v21 comes with cosmetic improvements, prepares to add reminders, multi-person requests, and Android Messages integration [APK Teardown]

Wednesday, October 25th, 2017

The Google Wallet app hasn't seen a lot of activity in a while, but an update began rolling out late yesterday that shows that there's still quite a bit happening to the app. Version 21 brings a number of visual enhancements that make the app look a bit cleaner and not quite as formal. Under the covers, a teardown also shows that the Wallet developers are about to launch multi-person money requests for those times when everybody splits the cost, a new reminders system to keep you from forgetting to take care of business, and confirms Android Messages integration is coming soon.

[#JustGoogleThings] Google broke setting reminders in Search yet again

Monday, October 9th, 2017

At this point, I'm pretty certain that there's a switch somewhere in Google's code for its Search algorithm that someone keeps flipping on and off inadvertently... or maybe they like toying with people's workflows and feelings.

Two months ago, we reported that setting reminders in Search on a desktop was not working anymore. The feature had been introduced in 2015 and worked by simply typing, "remind me to something" in Google Search on a desktop.

An update to the Google app hit the beta channel yesterday and it brings back the Notification toggles for Assistant devices that had briefly appeared a few months ago. Also in tow are some visual tweaks and a revised list of the types of devices certain Assistant features work with. A teardown also turns up new commute settings, a few bits about getting your kids set up with Google Assistant and Home, and a pretty cool feature for the newly announced Pixel Buds.

Finally: Google is preparing to add reminders to Google Home

Monday, September 25th, 2017

Since its release nearly a year ago, Google has continued to add more functionality to the Google Home smart speaker. Some of the new features include voice calling in the US and Canada, user-definable shortcuts, and automatic audio ducking on casted content when responding to questions. But all this time, the ability to set reminders has been missing.

Now, at long last, it looks like the feature is about to arrive.

[Update: It’s working now] Setting reminders from Chrome is broken

Wednesday, September 13th, 2017

There are myriad ways to set reminders tied to your Google account, although Google Home is notably not one of them. But I digress; it looks like Chrome has joined Home in not supporting reminders. Until recently, you could set reminders just by typing them into the desktop Chrome search box.

Setting reminders from Chrome is broken

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2017

There are myriad ways to set reminders tied to your Google account, although Google Home is notably not one of them. But I digress; it looks like Chrome has joined Home in not supporting reminders. Until recently, you could set reminders just by typing them into the desktop Chrome search box. Google seems to have broken this feature, but it's still listed on the support page.

To set reminders in Chrome, all you needed to do was type "remind me" followed by the thing about which you wanted to be reminded.

Google says recurring reminders on Android Wear actually aren’t fixed

Saturday, August 12th, 2017

Android Wear 2.0 has been quite the wild ride. Not only has the update taken months to arrive on most devices (a few are still waiting), but it brings major platform changes that not everyone is happy with. There have been a few major bugs as well, such as recurring reminders being completed without any user interaction.

Google initially said it was fixing the bug back in July, and supposedly the patch arrived a few days ago as part of a Google app update.

Recurring reminders on Android Wear to be fixed with future Google app update

Android Wear 2.0 has had some growing pains. Many users (including some of us at AP) would rather use version 1.5, due to major changes to how notifications are displayed and other annoyances. And as with any major software update, there have been a few bugs here and there.

One bug affected people using recurring reminders, causing them to be completed without any user interaction. This was initially reported on the official Android Wear Help Forum in early June, with several other people reporting the same problem.
