[Update: Pulled] Latest Google app beta (v8.14.12) repeatedly crashing for many

Tuesday, July 31st, 2018

Developer previews aren't always the most stable, and they aren't meant to be. They are the process by which a stable is created. Because of that, sometimes it's possible to run into a few issues when using them, and it appears many are seeing a repeated force close problem with the latest version of the Google app beta (v8.14.12) on Android P.

MoviePass suffers outage because it ran out of money, stock falls 70% in one day

Friday, July 27th, 2018

Most of our readers should probably be familiar with MoviePass—if not for the company's movie ticket-accessing subscription service, at least for its presence in the news for the last few days. MoviePass owners Helios and Matheson Analytics Inc. recently performed a reverse-split for the company's shares to drive up stock prices, which backfired a bit. More recently, everyone's favorite $6.95 a month service ran into a bit of a snag last night, resulting in a date night-stopping outage.

Fix for glitchy Google Maps visuals in Android Auto rolling out now

Monday, July 23rd, 2018

Back in April, users reported to Google that their Android Auto head units were showing weird, glitchy visuals under some circumstances. A fix was promised for sometime in June, but the month came and went with no resolution. Google has acknowledged this, though, and says a fix is rolling out now.

The rollout is coming in stages as part of a Google Play Services update and should be complete in "a few more weeks." The team doesn't seem entirely sure they've nailed down the problem, though, asking users to provide further information if the problem persists past the rollout window.

Saturday, May 5th, 2018

Reliably making phone calls on your smartphone is easy to take for granted, but there's nothing like disrupted and dropped calls to help you appreciate that simple function again. Some Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ owners are having their voices muted or distorted during calls, or having their calls dropped altogether. Now Samsung is starting to roll out a software update in some countries to fix these issues.

These problems have been reported by more than a few users around the world, and late last month Samsung said a fix would roll out soon.

[Update: Fix coming in June] Android Auto looks ‘pixelated’ for some, but Google is on the case
