Plex announced podcast support a few months ago, but some admittedly basic features were missing. In Plex's defense, podcasts were still in beta. Today, podcasts leave beta and get some of those basic (and vital) features.

Plex for Android v7.0 adds podcasts, customizable home screen, and more

Plex is already adept at cataloging and streaming your media collection, but the platform has also branched out a bit with content like live TV and news. Now, Plex is getting support for podcasts in the v7.0 update. That's not all—this update also includes a customizable home screen, easier navigation, and more.

Plex comes to Samsung Gear VR

There's a shortage of video designed for virtual reality, but you can still enjoy content intended for the flat screen in VR. There are VR apps for Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and more. Now, you can add Plex to the list. The new app should be live in the Oculus store right this minute.

Plex v6.15 adds on-device audio transcoding, local streaming to Chromecast, and more

On the heels of a new Chromecast UI rolling out to everyone, Plex is starting a staged rollout of a new version of the Android app. This one comes with a few significant changes that make your smartphone more capable for playback and streaming. You can finally do some on-the-fly transcoding from Android, and local files work with casting.

The new update is v6.15, and here's the full changelog.

Plex updates Chromecast interface with a fresh look, better slideshows, and more

It was a big deal some years back when Plex added Chromecast support. Google's Chromecast platform has only gotten more useful since then, and now Plex's Chromecast UI is getting an overdue revamp. The new interface looks nicer, but it also comes with functional improvements like better slideshow support and subtitle resizing.

These changes apply when using a device like your phone or PC to cast content to a Chromecast or another Cast-enabled device.

Plex comes to Daydream with full VR, co-watching, and selectable viewing scenes

In its continuing quest to dominate your personal media library, Plex is launching a new way to watch your locally-stored content. Plex VR is coming to Daydream, and the base package does not even require a Pass subscription! This will come with fully interactive viewing environments, social elements like a friends list, and support for 2D, 180°, 360°, and 3D+360° videos.

All you need a Plex media server, some stuff to watch, your phone, and a Daydream headset and you're ready to go.

Plex reportedly planning to support podcasts

Plex has been adding new features on a regular basis lately, like live TV and news. That's only the start of the company's expansion plans, though. According to a report from TechCrunch, Plex plans to add podcasts to the platform, and that could eventually lead to Plex becoming a one-stop-shop for your digital media needs.

The service, when it launches, would include both audio and video podcasts. Plex would also tie the podcast feature into the other content you watch (like live TV) and suggest podcasts based on that.
