Report: Google’s 2019 hardware plans include Pixel ‘Lite,’ Home refresh, new Nest cameras, and wearables

Google's first-party hardware options may be set to ramp up this year according to a recent report. Based on the details, we might see new product lines as well as refreshes of existing ones. In addition to the already knownupcomingcheaper Pixel "Lite," Nikkei is reporting that Google plans to release its own wearables (plural), a Google Home refresh, and security cameras this year.

The full report is pretty long and worth a read if you're big into Google's first party hardware efforts, but the relevant bits discussing previously unknown hardware are just below:

"One person with direct knowledge of the matter told Nikkei that Google plans to release a new security camera later this year after it integrated the team from Nest Labs... The company will also roll out an updated version of its signature smart speaker Google Home this year, as well as a new smartwatch to compete with the Apple Watch, the person familiar with the plan said."

New smart speakers and security cameras aren't especially surprising.

The video comes courtesy of Ukrainian tech blog Andro News, which appears to have uploaded its first video a mere six days ago.

Speaking to a source familiar with the company's plans, we've learned that Google intends to launch two new Pixel smartphones on Verizon in early spring 2019 - the Pixel 3 and 3 XL "Lite." An exact announcement date and pricing are not yet known. A Pixel 3 Lite prototype was leaked on a Russian tech blog last month, fueling rampant speculation about where the phone would be sold and how it would be positioned in Google's larger smartphone lineup.

Rumors about a possible budget Pixel phone have been circulating for months, but last month was the first time pictures of one leaked. The 'Pixel 3 Lite,' as it has been referred to, combines the design aesthetic of the Pixels with a midrange Snapdragon 670 processor. Renders of the phone have now leaked, and we're getting our first look at a larger variant.

Just days after the Sargo device code name appeared in an ARcore update, the device itself leaked. Now, there are more photos of the phone. This time, it's next to some other phones you might recognize to give some idea of the size.

We've heard rumors about a budget Pixel phone — codenamed 'Sargo' — for several months now. The name popped up in an ARCore release last week, signaling that the device could be nearing completion. Russian tech blog Rozetked has posted a hands-on with the unreleased device, calling it the 'Pixel 3 Lite'.

The phone visually looks very similar to the Pixel 3 and 3 XL, but with larger bezels and no screen notch.
