Many Pixel 3 and 3 XL owners are having problems with call quality and connection issues

Wednesday, December 19th, 2018

Put lightly, Google's latest pair of flagship phones have had some issues since their launch, and based on reports we've seen, we have yet another problem to add to our growing list. Many Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL owners are reporting a wide variety of issues related to phone calls, behaviors which cover a range of things from more "basic" call sound quality problems like choppy or inconsistent audio and tinniness to long call connection times and intermittent microphone failure.

Call Screen is starting to hit some Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL phones

Friday, November 16th, 2018

The Pixel 3 launched with Call Screen, which allows Assistant to "answer" by asking who's calling and offering ways to respond to calls. At the event, Google promised that the feature would trickle down to the older Pixel and Pixel 2 phones in November. We're halfway through the month, and it looks like Call Screen is indeed starting to hit some Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL phones.

We've gotten one tip from a reader with a Pixel 2 XL, and there's a post in r/GooglePixel showing it on a Pixel 2.

You've been asking for it, and asking for it, and asking for it, and... well, you get the point. Just after the Google Contacts app brought in the long-awaited, long-demanded dark theme, the Phone app is now following closely behind with the dark theme we've seen for the last couple versions. It's finally out of testing and available for the rest of the world to enjoy.

Google Phone v25 may be ready to roll out Dark Theme, prepares to share blocked numbers with other apps [APK Teardown]

Friday, October 26th, 2018

The latest Google Phone update is out, but you're probably not going to spot anything too special right out of the gate. The changes worth noting are to the upcoming dark mode, which appears to be complete as of this version. It still hasn't gone live, but it probably could at any time. There's also text describing a tweak that would allow blocked phone numbers to be shared between apps.

Google Phone v24 includes first pieces of Dark Mode [APK Teardown]

Thursday, September 27th, 2018

As many people had hoped, Google has been progressively adding dark modes to some of its core apps. Last month, there was even a teaser added to the Play Store changelog for the Google Phone app that promised to give users a choice between the all white look that has become so common, or a dark look that promises to be easier to the eyes, especially at night. The latest version is out, but unfortunately, this update won't be the one to enable dark mode.

Google is working on a new Favorites tab for the Phone app [APK Teardown]

Friday, August 10th, 2018

Following the update to the Android Messages app, a matching update to its Phone app was also shipped for Pixels and other Google-supported handsets. The story is the same, though the visual changes look less severe since the old versions were already less colorful and contact photos were a bit more dominant. There aren't any live functional changes for the general public, but there is one notable change to the Favorites tab in the works.

Report: Amazon may be working on a new, ‘much more intuitive’ phone

Sunday, July 29th, 2018

Most of us probably remember the Fire Phone, which was Amazon's first and last effort in the market. The device ran a heavily modified version of Android, and though it packed some interesting face-tracking technology, the interface itself was pretty godawful. Its mediocre specs were paired with an astronomical price tag, and just a bit over one year later, the Fire Phone finally burnt out. Now, according to a recent report by TheWrap, Amazon's mobile ambitions might be preparing to pull a phoenix and rise from the Fire Phone's failed ashes.

When Jenn Salke, the head of Amazon Studios, spoke to a reporter at the recent Television Critics Association press tour on Saturday, she was specifically asked about a phone with an improved Amazon Prime Video interface.

Google Phone app now has a beta program on the Play Store

Tuesday, April 10th, 2018

The Google Phone app has been updated fairly frequently as of late. In December, assisted dialing was added, and floating chat heads arrived in February. Now the company has opened a testing program on the Play Store, so you can try out in-development features before they arrive for everyone.

You can sign up for it at the source link below, but Google recommends you don't sign up for it on an account tied to your main phone.
