Sprint HTC 10 RUU file for the Android 8.0 Oreo update is live

Wednesday, April 18th, 2018

Back in February, HTC claimed that it had released the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the HTC 10 Sprint, but when we checked, no one had received it yet. It wasn't until a couple of weeks later that users started getting it, but if for some reason your device didn't get the OTA, you can now finally install it manually.

HTC has uploaded the RUU file for the Oreo update to the Sprint HTC 10, software version 3.18.651.3.

LG promises faster updates with new Software Upgrade Center

Thursday, April 12th, 2018

Timely software updates are all the rage these days. From security and stability to new features, there's always a marketable reason to prefer a rapid upgrade cycle. Plenty of OEMs like Samsung and LG have committed to frequent updates, and now the latter company is stepping things up, reiterating its commitment to consumers with a new "Software Upgrade Center" office in South Korea.

The new center is a literal, physical entity located in Magok-dong in western Seoul, and it's meant to drive future development and research for LG's software updates.

You can now check the current update states for every Chromebook

Saturday, April 7th, 2018

Unlike every other desktop operating system, Chrome OS updates are rolled out on a per-device basis, instead of being pushed to every Chromebook at once. This usually results in a less-buggy experience, but it can also mean updates for certain models become delayed.

If you're trying to figure out what versions of Chrome OS are rolled out to which devices, there's now a site for that - cros-updates-serving.appspot.com. Not the most memorable name, but the site shows the update rollout status for every supported Chromebook.

Google's monthly tradition continues—owners of Pixel and (some) Nexus devices can grab the latest software builds. The updates will roll out automatically in the coming days, but you don't have to wait. The OTA files and system images have both shown up, and there are bulletins documenting the surprisingly extensive list of changes.

The new Oreo builds with April security patches are available for first and second generation Pixel phones, as well as the Nexus 5X, 6P, and Pixel C tablet.

LG V30 on Sprint gets Android 8.0 Oreo

Tuesday, March 20th, 2018

LG has released a number of V30 variants over the past few months, with some of them running Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box (like the V30S ThinQ). Unfortunately, the company has been slow to update the Nougat-powered V30 and V30+, at least outside of South Korea. The Verizon V30 received Android 8.0 earlier this month, and now the Sprint model is next.

We received the above screenshot from one of our readers (thanks Ted!), who said the update was 1.7GB in size.

Here are all the Android Wear watches being updated to Wear OS

Thursday, March 15th, 2018

Earlier today, Google announced that Android Wear is being rebranded to 'Wear OS by Google.' For now, this is a simple renaming of the OS, with no functional changes to be seen. Google has now released a list of every watch that will receive the Wear OS update, and it looks identical to the list of watches that have been updated to Android 8.0 Oreo.

As far as I can tell, no watches have been dropped in the move from Android Wear Oreo to Wear OS.

Moto Z2 Force Android 8.0 Oreo update underway at Sprint

Friday, March 9th, 2018

Motorola may be in the middle of a big staffing shake-up, but that's not stopping the company from keeping up with the flow of software updates for its existing hardware. Last year we saw Moto's flagship Z series, with its support for modular hardware add-ons, evolve with its second generation of handsets, including the high-end Moto Z2 Force. For the past couple months now, we've been watching Motorola's Oreo update for the Z2 Force spread to devices on more and more carriers, and now it looks like we're adding Sprint to that list.
