OnePlus Switch adds support for migrating wallpapers, home screens, and more

Sunday, October 21st, 2018

Last year, OnePlus released a handy app for migrating to a new device, called OnePlus Switch. Even though Google already backs up some app data and settings to the cloud, OnePlus Switch can transfer even more information — provided you're coming from a supported device.

A new update is now rolling out on the Play Store with the following changes:

  • Support migrate wallpapers and the app layout. (only for OnePlus; receiving launcher version should higher than then the sending)
  • Support manual connection to mobile hotspots
  • Support to backup application data
  • Compatible with more Android models

This appears to be the same version found in the latest OnePlus 6 Open Beta.

The OnePlus 6T might be Verizon-compatible

Thursday, October 18th, 2018

The OnePlus 6T is shaping up to be a big deal for the plucky little Chinese smartphone maker. Not only will it sport a tiny notch and an in-display fingerprint reader, but the company is also taking a risk by ditching the headphone jack. We've heard rumors that the 6T could launch in T-Mobile stores in the US. Now, a report from PCMag suggests the 6T will work on Verizon.

PCMag's Sascha Segan notes that we should take this with a "grain of salt," but multiple industry sources claim the OnePlus 6T will work on Verizon's network.

OnePlus’s new bootloader unlocking page hints at a carrier 6T variant

Friday, October 12th, 2018

OnePlus has always been enthusiast-oriented. Their phones run close-to-stock software, and it's incredibly easy to get ROMs and custom recoveries onto them. A bootloader unlock request page that just went up on OnePlus's site indicates that could be about to change with the upcoming 6T, which many have speculated will also be sold by T-Mobile.

Historically, all OnePlus devices have been able to have their bootloaders unlocked via the simple "fastboot oem unlock" command that everyone knows and loves.

OnePlus talks about Screen Unlock, its in-display fingerprint sensor

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018

It's far from a secret at this point that the upcoming OnePlus 6T will shirk the pesky external fingerprint sensor in favor of the as-yet-unproven, superior in-display variant. Snarkiness aside, I am personally skeptical at this point, but that doesn't mean the prospect isn't neat.
