Saturday, September 15th, 2018

OnePlus is pushing out Open Beta updates for its latest flagship quickly. The phone is already on its third version (we skipped the last one since it was rather boring), this time with more improvements across the board, plus some new features. OnePlus Switch is getting some refinements, Parallel Apps is expanding to include more options, and there's even an option to launch Assistant (or other voice assistant) by holding the power button for half a second.

Monday, September 3rd, 2018

What a way to celebrate Labor Day. The first Open Beta for the OnePlus 6 is now available! Notably, this update brings the phone up to Android 9 Pie and, along with all of the changes in the latest OS version, it adds some new features, too. This being the initial release, there are some bugs to be expected, but let's take a look through the changelog first.

  • Update system to Android 9.0 Pie
    • Brand new UI for Android P
    • New Android P gesture navigation
    • Other new features and system improvements
  • Integrated OnePlus customization features
    • Supported accent color customization
    • New Do Not Disturb mode with adjustable settings
    • New Gaming Mode 3.0
      • Added text notification mode
      • Added notification for 3rd party calls

So, that's all pretty self-explanatory.

Closed Beta applications for the OnePlus 6 now open

Monday, August 20th, 2018

OnePlus has opened applications for the Closed Beta program for its latest flagship. This opportunity lets users test the new versions of OxygenOS before the general public and communicate directly with the software team to report bugs or offer suggestions. It's a bit more special than the Open Beta system that you see us write about so often.

There are three requirements to be accepted into the program:

  1. Own a OnePlus 6
  2. Be a regular, active OnePlus forums member
  3. Be willing to "constantly communicate" with the software team (on their Slack channel) about bugs, suggestions, etc.

[Update: Next update will fix] Some OnePlus 6 displays flicker in bright light with adaptive brightness enabled

Saturday, August 4th, 2018

In the last couple of weeks, I noticed my own OnePlus 6 was having a bit of trouble when I was outdoors. If I went to check missed messages or train schedules on a sunny day, I'd notice the display seemed to flicker spastically between two different brightness levels.

Some OnePlus 6 displays flicker in bright light with adaptive brightness enabled

Saturday, July 28th, 2018

In the last couple of weeks, I noticed my own OnePlus 6 was having a bit of trouble when I was outdoors. If I went to check missed messages or train schedules on a sunny day, I'd notice the display seemed to flicker spastically between two different brightness levels. I pushed it out of my mind, assuming I imagined it, but according to reports compiled together by the folks at PiunikaWeb, I'm not alone.

OnePlus rolls out new Android P developer preview for OnePlus 6

Wednesday, July 18th, 2018

It's been a few weeks since the fourth Android P developer preview hit Google devices, but this is the first year that other OEMs are joining the dev preview fun. Among them is OnePlus, which has released several preview builds for its latest flagship phone. There's a new one today, which OP is calling "developer preview 3." Is that actually DP3 or DP4 in the Google naming scheme? No one knows, but it's new for OnePlus 6 owners.

Warp Charge may be OnePlus’ new name for Dash Charge, following trademark mishaps

Tuesday, July 17th, 2018

The folks over at the Dutch site Mobielkopen have spotted a trademark application in the EU for "Warp Charge," filed on behalf of OnePlus. Presumably, this new name is set to replace Dash Charge, after OnePlus previously failed to secure it as an exclusive trademark in the EU.

OnePlus' previous attempts to secure the "Dash Charge" name were denied when Bragi and Amazon each contested the application under the claim that there could be consumer confusion between Amazon's Dash Replenishment API service and Bragi's various Dash earphones.

The 5 worst things about the OnePlus 6

Saturday, July 14th, 2018

There's a lot to like about the OnePlus 6. It looks great, its got that genius alert slider, and it charges really fast. It isn't perfect, though; to hit an appropriately OnePlus price point, some corners invariably must be cut. Last month, we shared with you six things we liked about the OnePlus 6. Now, here are five things we don't.

Price (again)

Price was on our list of the best things about the OnePlus 6, and while it is still a big part of why the device is appealing — it doesn't really have any equals at its price point — OnePlus has been steadily upping the price tag on its offerings year over year at a rate that, proportionally, far exceeds other manufacturers.
