OmniROM was a popular custom ROM back in the Jelly Bean/KitKat era, especially because of its multi-window feature and wide device support. The project has scaled back its reach over the years, like most custom ROMs (except LineageOS), but it still maintains a dedicated user base.

OmniROM has started to offer official Android 8.1 weekly builds, beating LineageOS to the punch. Oreo is currently available for the OnePlus 3/3T, OnePlus 5, and Samsung Galaxy Tab S2.

OxygenOS Open Beta 3 brings face unlock to the OnePlus 5

A few days ago, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei announced that the OnePlus 5T's face unlock feature would arrive on the 5, "due to popular demand." The feature was not included in the phone's Oreo update, but it has now arrived in an OxygenOS Open Beta for the OnePlus 5.

Open Beta 3 was released earlier today, and clocks in at 1.58GB. The most notable feature is face unlock, but there are some other nice improvements as well.

One of the new features on the OnePlus 5T is face unlock, which works in a similar manner to the iPhone X's face unlock (though OP's implementation is less secure). OnePlus 5 owners already received an early Christmas present in the form of an Android Oreo update, but there is another addition in the works - face unlock support.

Merry (early) Christmas, OnePlus 5 owners. Oxygen OS 5.0 is now out of beta for the OnePlus 5. Not only do you get to enjoy a holiday taste of Android 8.0 Oreo, but this update also includes the latest security patches for December. The OTA is incrementally rolling out now so it could be a while before you see it, though. 

OnePlus announced the news at around 10AM today (though the thread on OnePlus' forums has a publication date of Friday the 22nd, the announcement didn't actually go up until today).

OxygenOS Open Beta 2 (8.0 Oreo) released for OnePlus 5

It's been less than a month since the first Android Oreo Open Beta for the OnePlus 5 landed, and already the company is releasing its second beta. This time around you don't have a substantially new version of Android to look forward to, but there is a pile of fixes and improvements to dig into.

The full changelog for Open Beta 2, which is almost entirely bugfixes or incremental changes, is just below:

  • Fixed shortcut issues

  • UI improvements

  • Added f4v format in video category
  • Speed improvements while deleting massive files

System

  • Improvements for Reading Mode
  • Improvements for vibration

  • Fixed Parallel Apps bugs
  • Fixed reboot issue when using Picture in Picture
  • Updated Android security patch to November
  • General bug fixes and stability improvements

If you've already migrated to the Open Betas, you should receive an OTA update to this version soon.
