HMD Global gives in, announces bootloader unlock program for the Nokia 8

Thursday, September 27th, 2018

HMD Global, the manufacturer of the recent Nokia phones, has notoriously been against releasing kernel source codes for its devices, despite their popularity. And even when it does push those out to the development community, it typically prevents people from unlocking the phones' bootloaders, which hampers customization options. But this morning brought news that Nokia 8 owners could do just that: unlock their bootloaders.

Tuesday, September 11th, 2018

Even stock Android isn't perfect. While the lack of a heavy-handed skin is welcome, many users will find shortcomings (whether personal or widely acknowledged by the user base at large), that they'd like to tweak. Those users will be glad to know that the one and likely only Essential PH-1, one of the few stock devices on the market, is now supported by TWRP.

TWRP is the most popular custom recovery, providing a handy tool for installing custom software on your device, from rooting to replacing the firmware of a device with a full custom ROM.

HMD Global finally releases Nokia 8 kernel source code

Saturday, April 21st, 2018

Despite doing a pretty good job on keeping its phones up to date, HMD Global has until recently had a bit of trouble with releasing the kernel sources for its devices. Having this code allows developers to start tinkering with custom software for the device(s) in question. These kernel sources for the Nokia 8, which was very well-received by our very own (awesome) Rita, have often been requested by the dev community since the phone launched.

Google will begin certifying Android devices for business use, starting with phones from LG, BlackBerry, Motorola, and others

Wednesday, February 21st, 2018

For many enterprise customers, the question of which Android phones should be used is difficult to answer.

Google's solution to this problem is the 'Android Enterprise Recommended' program, which defines which Android devices are ideal for business use.
