It's the second Nokia device to get the stable Pie release after the 7 Plus was updated at the end of September.

With the latest major OS version on board, the Nokia 6.1 will have new features such as App Actions, Adaptive Battery, Slices, as well as the much-maligned gesture navigation system that we've seen on Google's Pixel phones.

Android 9 Pie beta now available to test for Nokia 6.1 Plus users

Nokia confirmed just last week that it would be rolling out the first wave of Android Pie updates to devices this month, beginning with phones running on the Snapdragon 600-series. True to its word, an Android 9 Pie Beta has now arrived for the Nokia 6.1 Plus, along with the October security patch.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus launched in July as a version of the China-exclusive X6. The Nokia 6.1, launched in January, is also due to receive Pie, but the update isn't available on Nokia's website for beta testers yet.

Nokia's return to the smartphone market by way of HMD has already made an impact thanks to affordable hardware and clean Android One software. Kernel source code for the Nokia 6.1 is now available

The Nokia 6.1 is HMD Global's sequel to last year's immensely popular Nokia 6. It's a great phone, as we covered in our review, and now its kernel source code is publicly available for developers to tinker with.

Unfortunately, the kernel source release is little more than HMD following the legal requirements of various open-source licenses, since all Nokia Android phones are bootloader-locked. Since custom ROMs and recoveries are out of the question with locked devices, there's not much developers can actually do with the source code package right now.
