Sunday, July 22nd, 2018

The past week has been absolutely overrun with deals, do in no small part to the arrival of Amazon's annual Prime Day. While that's obviously been great for Prime members, there have also been a nice assortment of offers targeting the rest of us, as companies go after shoppers who weren't able to take advantage of Amazon's festivities. Here are some of our favorite deals from the past few days, ones that are both still available and aren't exclusive to Prime users.

Motorola's G-series phones generally provide a pretty great bang for your buck. The recent G6 is no exception, and Verizon has it for a very appealing price — if you're looking to open a new line of service. In that case, the G6 is just five bucks a month, coming to $120 over two years, interest-free.

This deal has been going on for a few weeks now, and Verizon hasn't said when it's set to end.

Moto E5 Play Android Go edition announced for Europe and Latin America

Friday, July 13th, 2018

Back in April, Motorola announced six phones on the same day - three with the G6 nameplate, and three with the E5 name. Apparently that wasn't enough, though, because Motorola has just announced a Moto E5 Play Android Go edition. And confusingly enough, it doesn't appear to share much with the standard Moto E5 Play.

While the E5 Play has a 5.2" 720p screen in a 16:9 aspect ratio, the E5 Play Android Go (why couldn't they just call it "Moto E5 Go"?) comes with a 5.3" screen of unknown resolution in an 18:9 ratio.

Motorola releases 8.1 Oreo kernel source code for Moto X4

Friday, July 6th, 2018

The Moto X4 started receiving Android 8.1 Oreo back in May, and it brought with it a couple of issues. Two months later, Motorola has released the kernel source for that update as it's mandated to do by the GPL whenever there are any modifications to the Android kernel.

What this means is that developers will now have a much easier time making custom ROMs and recoveries for the Moto X4 on Android 8.1 Oreo.

Moto Z3 Play review: An unacceptable price for a decent phone

Friday, July 6th, 2018

Motorola has changed a lot since the days when it was a Google company. Ah, what a time that was! With the glory days of the Moto X long behind us, it's all about Moto Mods now. The company has just launched its first 2018 Z device—the Moto Z3 Play, and it's pushing the modular angle even harder. When you purchase the Z3 Play, you get a Motorola battery Mod in the box, plus support for all the Mods released thus far.

Android 8.0 Oreo rolling out to Verizon Moto Z Play

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018

The original Moto Z Play was released in 2016, and originally shipped with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. An update to Android 7.0 started rolling out in March 2017, and a 7.1.1 update came in June. The unlocked US model received 8.0 Oreo in May of this year, but only now is the Verizon model (also known as Moto Z DROID Edition) being updated.

The Oreo update has a software version of 'ODN27.76-12-30-2', and has all the new features you would expect from Android 8.0.

The 3 best and worst things about the Moto G6

Saturday, June 30th, 2018

I'll be the first to admit that the Moto G6 is not the most exciting phone in the world. The days of being wowed by sub-$300 phones simply on the basis of not being terrible are long gone, but Motorola still rolls new budget devices out every year. The new Moto G6 is probably at the top of the list for many budget phone shoppers. Our full review includes ample details, but here are the three best and worst things about the G6.
