Mobvoi unveils two updated Wear OS smartwatches: Ticwatch E2 and S2

Tuesday, January 8th, 2019

Chinese AI firm Mobvoi has been a shining light in the generally underwhelming Android Wear/Wear OS space, and today it's announcing two new products. The TicWatch E2 and S2 (standing for Express and Sport) are follow-ups to the company's most affordable smartwatches, with updated designs, bigger batteries, but still Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100.

While it's disappointing not to get the latest silicon, it's understandable given the likely low price points of these models and it didn't stop the TicWatch Pro from performing well when I reviewed it.

TicWatch users can now set Google Fit as their default left swipe app

Thursday, December 20th, 2018

The TicWatch Pro is a pretty good smartwatch, as much as any SD Wear 2100 watch running Wear OS can be, anyway. One complaint about it was that you were forced to use Mobvoi's own health app as the default swipe left screen in Wear 2.0 (to the right of your watchface), but that's thankfully no longer the case.

Since the update to Wear 2.2, some TicWatch Pro users have noticed that you can now swipe left and long-press to bring up a choice between TicHealth and Google Fit.

You're what? Letting all your holiday shopping go to the last minute? Because you're convinced there are big, big deals right around the corner? That is one risky maneuver, and while you might snag a sale or two, we hope you enjoy a few stressed-out weeks. Maybe we can soften the impact a little with a few of the best offers to recently cross our desk.

Mobvoi’s TicPods Free earbuds down to $100 ($30 off) on Amazon

Thursday, December 6th, 2018

Wires are so yesterday, but it's hard to find a good set of true wireless earbuds without breaking the bank. The TicPods Free from Mobvoi might not have everything you want, but they're a good deal at $130. Today, they're an even better deal with a $30 discount on Amazon.

The TocPods Free do an admirable AirPod impression with their long stems. They're not quite as compact, but they have proper ear tips that will actually stay in your ear.

[Update: C2 sales get started with 10% discount] Mobvoi announces TicWatch C2 at London event, plus TicPods Free earbuds are now on sale

Thursday, December 6th, 2018

Chinese AI company Mobvoi hosted an event in London today, in part to raise awareness for digital wellbeing, but mainly to make two announcements. The TicPods Free true wireless earbuds that we first heard about in April are now on general sale, but the main attraction is the brand new TicWatch C2.

TicPods Free review: Capable true wireless earbuds that won’t break the bank

Wednesday, October 24th, 2018

True wireless earbuds have seen a huge rise in popularity over the last couple of years as the products have reached a price point and level of quality that make them viable purchases for mainstream consumers. The IFA 2018 show floor was packed with new models from various brands, and I’ve already reviewed two products in the category in the last couple of months.

The Earin M–2 ($249) and Master & Dynamic MW07 ($299) were both premium products with hefty price tags, but now it’s time to try something a little easier on the wallet.

Mobvoi announces TicWatch C2 at London event, plus TicPods Free earbuds are now on sale

Wednesday, October 24th, 2018

Chinese AI company Mobvoi hosted an event in London today, in part to raise awareness for digital wellbeing, but mainly to make two announcements. The TicPods Free true wireless earbuds that we first heard about in April are now on general sale, but the main attraction is the brand new TicWatch C2.

The timepiece is a spiritual successor to the original TicWatch (C2 stands for Classic 2), except this time it runs Wear OS by Google.

Ticwatch E2 teaser leaks on Mobvoi’s website

Sunday, September 23rd, 2018

A teaser for the Ticwatch E2 is now live on Mobvoi’s website. The company's Ticwatch line has proven popular in the wearable marketplace and it just recently launched the Ticwatch Pro, which we reviewed. The E and S models were first released in July 2017 after a successful Kickstarter campaign.

While details are scarce, or actually nonexistent, the teaser page declares that “Water is now a friend of your watch.” As the current TicWatch S and E models are already rated IP67 water resistant, it appears the E2 will feature upgraded water resistance or even waterproofing.

[Update: 28-day battery life] TicWatch Pro review: A good Wear watch at a bad time

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

Chinese firm Mobvoi — founded by ex-Googlers — has a history of making connected watches that stretches back to its original TicWatch and TicWatch 2 running the proprietary TicWear OS. Around this time last year, the TicWatch S and E were launched with Wear OS (then Android Wear) on board, and they were praised for their quality and excellent value proposition.

Armani announces next generation Connected Wear OS smartwatch

Monday, July 16th, 2018

If you don't entirely keep track of all the designer labels and their various smartwatch releases (like me), you may not have been aware of the Emporio Armani Connected Wear OS device. Well, now we know, and just in time to learn about the latest watch from the Italian fashion house.

The new generation Connected watch features a 1.19" AMOLED display and the same aging Snapdragon 2100 chip I recently reviewed in the TicWatch Pro.
