LineageOS 15.1 coming to the Huawei Honor 4X, Fairphone 2, and more

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

The last time we covered LineageOS, it added support for the 2016 Google Pixel and Pixel XL. Since then, more devices have been added and removed. Two Asus phones and an LG device are no longer supported, but four more phones have joined the party.

First, let's cover the removals. LineageOS 14.1 for the LG K10 (m216) has been discontinued, possibly due to the maintainer being inactive. The official forum hasn't had a reply from the developer since February.

LineageOS 15.1 now available for the 2016 Pixel and Pixel XL

Tuesday, July 31st, 2018

The Nexus devices of old were some of the best phones when it came to custom ROMs, and while the Pixels are still popular options for software mods, CyanogenMod/LineageOS has never offered official builds. I'm not sure the exact reason why, but I assume it had something to do with the A/B partitioning scheme, or perhaps there was not a maintainer available to work on it.

Regardless of why it wasn't available before, official LineageOS 15.1 (Android 8.1) builds are now live for the 2016 Google Pixel (sailfish) and Pixel XL (marlin).

The last time we covered LineageOS, the most popular custom Android ROM, it started supporting a handful of new devices with Android 8.1 builds. The project published Changelog 19 yesterday, which goes over some recent changes to the ROM and the community supporting it. There are some leadership changes, more newly-supported devices, and a new custom recovery.

New features

Let's start with the recent general changes to LineageOS. There's a new 'Trust' interface in the Settings app, which includes all of the ROM's privacy and security features in one place (including Privacy Guard).

LineageOS 15.1 now available for Moto Z2 Force, Xperia XA2, and more

Monday, July 2nd, 2018

LineageOS 15.1, based on Android 8.1 Oreo, is slowly rolling out to more devices. Last month, Oreo builds for the OnePlus One, Galaxy S5 Plus, and other devices became available. Since then, more phones have been added to the LineageOS 15.1 build roster, including Motorola's 2017 flagship and the Sony Xperia XA2.

Before we get to the new devices, builds have stopped for two targets. LineageOS 15.1 is no longer available for the HTC One A9 (hiae), due to issues with calling.

LineageOS apologises for late and ‘bad taste’ April Fools’ joke

Tuesday, April 10th, 2018

Every year on April Fools' day we see many companies and organizations try their hand at comedy in a bid to score some good publicity. Some get it spot on — my personal favorite came from the European Parliament, claiming on Twitter that all EU passports would become blue. Inevitably, some get it spectacularly wrong, and in the Android community this year that unwanted accolade goes LineageOS. The team behind it has now issued an apology.

Don’t freak out: LineageOS has a very bad and very late April Fools’ joke in latest builds

Thursday, April 5th, 2018

LineageOS announced its April Fools' Day joke at the appropriate time back on Sunday, but the gag itself wasn't ready until the most recent builds were released yesterday. Now that it has actually landed (late), the hoax has lost both its relevance and its taste. So if you flash this week's update and see a warning about software counterfeiting and cryptocurrency mining, don't freak out. It's just a very late, very bad joke.

The warning, as it appears on a freshly-updated device.
