Google says the Pixelbook’s random reboot bug has been fixed

Tuesday, April 17th, 2018

The Google Pixelbook is a pretty fantastic laptop, but every tech product has a few bugs. Recently, some owners have been reporting a nasty reboot bug, where the Pixelbook will randomly restart while in use. The frequency varies from report to report, with one even saying it occurred every 1-10 minutes. Yikes.

Thankfully, the glitch has now been fixed, at least according to Google. Kevin Kirk, a support manager for the company, left the following response on several threads about the issue:

Hi all,

Sorry for the inconvenience, our engineers have found the cause and fixed it.

I used the Google Pixelbook as my only laptop at CES – and it completely converted me

Tuesday, January 16th, 2018

The Google Pixelbook is a truly excellent piece of hardware, as I stated in my review of it over two months ago. The refrain so often heard about Chromebooks, though, is that Chrome OS's limited application ecosystem prevents it from being a "serious" laptop operating system. As someone who frequently travels and has to be mobile as part of my job, I thought I'd put Google's laptop to the test in a live environment: CES.

The Pixelbook is being used to test Google’s Fuchsia OS

Sunday, December 31st, 2017

For over a year, Google has been developing an operating system named 'Fuchsia,' designed to run across a wide array of devices. The company hasn't said anything publicly about it, but it is entirely open-source, so development on the project has been transparent. Simply put, we can see what Google is working on, but we don't know what it will actually be used for.

According to Fuchsia's documentation, the Acer Switch Alpha 2 and Intel NUC are officially supported 'target' devices.

Amazon is making the holiday season all the merrier by offering customers a $50 Amazon gift card with the purchase of select Chromebook hardware. Google's take on the future of portable computing, Chromebooks run the search giant's Chrome OS, a streamlined operating system built entirely around Google's ecosystem of apps and productivity software.

Here’s where to pre-order the Google Pixelbook

Thursday, October 5th, 2017

Google's new Pixelbook looks kinda slick. I think the changes are pretty high that I'm going to grab one. At least, if the keyboard on it is any good. But there are a lot of places to pre-order the new Chromebook up outside the Google Play store. For your convenience (and mine, later) we've put together some of the spots you can pick it up into a nice little list.

Google Store

To start, there's the obvious location.

Google’s Pixelbook is official, starts at $999 with an optional stylus for $99

Wednesday, October 4th, 2017

At Google's event today, we saw a lot of new products announced. Meet the Pixelbook, the long-overdue successor to the Chromebook Pixels of yore — we saw this leaked a few weeks ago. This laptop/tablet hybrid fits in well with Google's overall design language and it packs in high-end specs and Assistant, starting off at $999.

Specs

Display 12.3" QHD LCD
CPU Intel Core i5, i7
RAM up to 16GB
Storage 128GB, 256GB, 512GB
Battery ~10 hours of use, USB-C charging
Keyboard Backlit, soft touch

With Android apps on ChromeOS in full-swing, as it has been for the last while, it makes complete sense that the Pixelbook is a 2-in-1 hybrid (or what some may call 4-in-1).
