Google Duo lets you export your call history easily, no ADB hacks necessary

Monday, June 11th, 2018

With version 32 of Google Duo, Cody discovered an activity that would let him export the call log history to any app on his device. Despite the feature being functional, it wasn't visible and had to be triggered from ADB through your computer. Now, the option is getting its own UI element, although it's hidden where you don't expect it to be.

Open the Google Duo app, tap the overflow menu on the top right, and choose Help & feedback.

Monday, June 4th, 2018

Knock Knock! Who's there? Duo. Duo who? Du-o know that Google's video calling app has just surpassed 500 million installs on the Play Store? We need to take a few minutes to celebrate this milestone.

But before we get started, here's a little disclaimer: Duo is now part of the Google GMS pre-installed apps on Android devices — it replaced Hangouts almost two years ago — so it didn't achieve that feat by itself, but it was helped along the way by being installed out of the box on all new devices.

We've even seen basically what it looks like, albeit just as a sample. Now with the rollout of v34, we can all begin sharing our screens with friends, or more likely, help our parents fix something that's not working on their phones.

Google Duo v33 hints at read receipts and three levels of bokeh effect [APK Teardown]

Friday, April 27th, 2018

While we await the imminent rollout of the screen sharing feature we've been watching for a few months, a new version of Duo is rolling out with even more clues about upcoming changes. Google Duo screen sharing: This is how it should look

Wednesday, April 18th, 2018

When you're looking to video chat, Android users aren't hurting for options, and you've got your pick of everything from Skype to Snapchat. Sometimes, though, simplicity is best, and two years back Google introduced its no-nonsense video calling app: Duo. While Duo's largely stayed true to its straightforward roots, we've slowly been seeing the software become fleshed out with some useful new features. One that Google's been working on for a while now is the ability to share your phone's screen with the party you're calling, and while it's still not live quite yet, we're finally getting a look at how it's likely to work.

Friday, April 13th, 2018

Duo is getting an update to v32 today, following shortly after the launch of the long-awaited ability to link a Google account. There aren't any immediately obvious changes in the UI for this version, and a look through the teardown seems to support that it contains mostly changes to phrasing and other tweaks to improve the sign-up process. However, a few things were discovered during a teardown, including a tool for exporting call history, which is already live

What's New

Unofficial Changelog: (the stuff we found)

  • Call history export tool (possibly not sticking around)

Exporting call history

Disclaimer: Before we go into this topic, let me be clear that this might not be intended for regular users and could be pulled out in a future update.

[Update: APK Download, linking works but contacting doesn’t] Google looks nearly ready to link Duo with your Google account

Friday, March 30th, 2018

Google Duo is a little unusual among the company's apps, as it identifies users not based on the Google account that connects you to everything from Gmail, to YouTube, to the Play Store, but instead uses your device's phone number.
