It's been less than a year since the new Gmail web UI rolled out, and the client has been steadily gaining new features , like snoozing of email. There's good news today — soon twelve commonly-used actions will be possible through the right-click menu.

All roads lead to Gmail: Google is shutting down the classic Tasks web UI

Tuesday, February 5th, 2019

Keeping track of everything on your to-do list can be stressful, but Google Tasks has made that easy for plenty of people over the years. However, classic Google Tasks is at the end of its lifespan and will be disappearing soon.

Users will still be able to access Google Tasks through the Gmail sidebar, Google Calendar or by downloading the dedicated Tasks app for Android and iOS. Last spring we saw Google snag the tasks.google.com URL, and not long after came the new Google Tasks icon.

Gmail v8.12 begins testing Dynamic Email (AMP) support [APK Teardown]

Thursday, January 24th, 2019

We don't hear much about new technology making an appearance in email, which makes it all the more interesting when it happens. The latest Gmail update includes a sign that Google has begun testing a feature called Dynamic Email in the Android app, and once it goes live for regular users, this may be effectively turning email into an app platform.

Gmail is getting strikethrough and undo/redo buttons

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019

Gmail is getting a few quality of life improvements in the near future. Over the next couple of days, G Suite Gmail accounts will see the addition of undo and redo buttons in the compose window, along with a button to strike text through (like this). Emails will also soon be downloadable as .EML files.

While struck-through text isn't something you're likely to need very often (Google suggests using it to signify completed items in a list), there's currently no easy way to add it to an email on the platform, so it's a notable addition.

Update Notes for the Google app, Gmail, Translate, Home, Play Books, and Fit (November 21, 2018)

Wednesday, November 21st, 2018

Every week, I examine somewhere in the neighborhood of a hundred app updates while looking for changes. The most interesting things turn into APK Teardowns or Download posts. Many of the remaining updates are unremarkable, amounting to a few bug fixes, routine updates to libraries, or even just pixel-level adjustments to layouts and images. However, there are usually a few updates that land somewhere in between. I don't want to spam readers with dozens of short posts, but I hate to ignore things that people might want to know about, so I'm going to wrap up the leftovers for a little weekend reading and call it Update Notes.

Wednesday, November 14th, 2018

Hangouts and Google+ may not be the hottest apps they once were (or not) a few years ago, and one of them is going to be shut down soon, but there's still (very) slow development affecting them.
