DisplayMate lauds Note9’s color accuracy in ‘record-setting’ rating

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

Samsung is well known for its prowess in OLED display technology, but in case you need a secondary source to provide a glowing and detailed review, DisplayMate has come out with its analysis of the Note9.

The display test and calibration company analyses a range of top-tier smartphones each year, and Samsung's Note series never fails to win a glowing report. For the Note9's 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen, though, DisplayMate has doled out a 'record-setting' rating.

For those of us who like to change our wallpapers up often, it's always interesting to see what's included on the latest and greatest phones. The Galaxy Note9 was officially announced yesterday, and we already have all 12 wallpapers available for your perusal and download.

A couple are simple gradients, but most are slightly different takes on the same colorful squiggle look. I'm sure there's a better term for them, but hey, I'm not an art guy.

The Galaxy Note9 is Samsung’s fanboy phone

Friday, August 10th, 2018

Sitting through Samsung's Unpacked press conference in Brooklyn yesterday, I wasn't struck with a barrage of technical specifications, comparisons to the competition, or endless feature demos. Samsung didn't even really attempt to sell the new Note as revolutionary, or to convince its audience that they were getting a great product for the money. Instead, it appealed to something more human, more base: emotion.

The Note9 announcement opened with a montage of journalists disparaging the original Galaxy Note back in 2011 (to be fair, it was a bad phone), followed by a supercut on the rise of the Big Phone and the Note's subsequent dominance of the segment it essentially created.

Netflix adds Galaxy Note9, Tab S4, LG G7/V35, and more to HD and HDR list

Friday, August 10th, 2018

Samsung is known for having the best displays in the smartphone/tablet game, and that hasn't changed with the new Galaxy Note9 and Tab S4. As a result, we're not surprised that Netflix has already added the duo to its HD/HDR support list. Several other devices have been added as well.

We also aren't surprised to see the LG G7 and V35 here, as LG's G6 was actually the first device on Netflix's HDR list.

The Note9’s new Bluetooth S Pen has a clever solution to its power problem, but one that’s also pretty limiting

Thursday, August 9th, 2018

Powering  mobile accessories is tricky business, with companies forced to balance concerns of capacity, charging speed, and ease of use. That challenge is doubly hard for something like a stylus, where space is at an absolute premium. Samsung's S Pen has long offered a graceful solution to these issues, leveraging Wacom digitizer technology to power the stylus by way of an electromagnetic field, without requiring any power supply on the S Pen itself.

Galaxy Note9 first look: Finally, a big Note with a battery to match

Thursday, August 9th, 2018

As the number of big smartphones with big batteries grows in Asia, Samsung has generally been reluctant to follow the trend with its popular Note series. While the Note9 features a host of changes, I think the enlarged battery is easily the most significant, and the one that will set it apart from rivals. At 4000mAh, this new Note has a full 20% more battery capacity than its predecessor. And while that may not sound crazy, it amounts to 700mAh, which should easily make the Note9 an all-day-and-then-some device for even heavy users.

Galaxy Note9 is official: Bigger battery, powered S Pen, and Fortnite for $1,000

Thursday, August 9th, 2018

In keeping with Samsung's yearly tradition, the latest entry in the Note series has been formally revealed. The new Note9, like the S9 before it, is an incremental advancement over its predecessor rather than an outright revolution in design. Packing the latest Snapdragon 845 and a sizeably increased 4,000mAh battery, Samsung's new Note phone includes all the best features we have come to expect from a 2018 flagship, with none of the notch. In keeping with the swelling specifications, the price has also increased to a round $1,000.

Latest Galaxy Note9 leak reveals almost everything about the phone

Tuesday, August 7th, 2018

We're only two days away from the Galaxy Note9's NYC event, which means that there's a lot of information on it out already. WinFuture was able to obtain photos of the Note9 in four colors, as well as other images, specifications, pricing, pre-order goodies, and more. Basically the only figure we haven't heard yet is US pricing.

Let's talk specs first. The Galaxy Note9 will reportedly have a 6.4" 2960x1440 AMOLED display, which is slightly larger than the Note8's.
