LG confirms the G8 will feature an OLED screen that vibrates to produce sound

When renders of the upcoming LG G8 based on leaked CAD models were first circulated, one feature was particularly conspicuous by its absence — there was no earpiece. It's been rumored that this could be the first phone to feature a vibrating display that emits sound, and we now have official confirmation that this is the case.

According to LG, the G8 ThinQ will "push boundaries" with its Crystal Sound OLED (CSO) that acts as a diaphragm/amplifier, similar to technology previously announced for LG TVs.

LG G8 to have 3D time-of-flight sensor on front for enhanced face recognition and portrait shots

Now that renders have shown what the G8 ThinQ will look like, LG has revealed more about the upcoming flagship that will be unveiled at MWC. The new handset will feature a time-of-flight sensor, which is expected to offer fast and precise facial recognition.

Just like FaceID, the time-of-flight camera in the G8 will use infrared light to build a 3D model of the subject and confirm identity. LG has collaborated with Infineon to integrate its dedicated REAL3 ToF chip, meaning the phone will need less processing power and use less energy compared to other devices that rely on software algorithms for facial validation.
