Funcl’s truly wireless earbuds now on sale, starting at $19 [Sponsored Post]

Tuesday, November 13th, 2018

One of the reasons many people hate the lack of headphone jacks on newer smartphones is that Bluetooth headphones are typically expensive, especially if you want a pair that actually work. Funcl today launched a crowdfunding campaign for two pairs of wireless earbuds — the $19 Funcl W1 and the $54 Funcl AI.

The Funcl W1, seen in the below photos, are a pair of truly wireless earbuds for just $19.

TicPods Free review: Capable true wireless earbuds that won’t break the bank

Wednesday, October 24th, 2018

True wireless earbuds have seen a huge rise in popularity over the last couple of years as the products have reached a price point and level of quality that make them viable purchases for mainstream consumers. The IFA 2018 show floor was packed with new models from various brands, and I’ve already reviewed two products in the category in the last couple of months.

The Earin M–2 ($249) and Master & Dynamic MW07 ($299) were both premium products with hefty price tags, but now it’s time to try something a little easier on the wallet.

Master & Dynamic MW07 review: Exceptional sounding true wireless earbuds, but probably too pricey for most

Friday, October 12th, 2018

As the 3.5mm headphone jack slowly descends into the freezing cold waters of the past, our audio options for most high-end Android phones are limited to three. We can use and subsequently lose the adapter, get some USB-C headphones, or we can ditch the wires altogether. Bluetooth earbuds inelegantly attached to one another by a wire just won’t do any longer; true wireless earbuds are where it's at right now.

Apple’s AirPods have acted as a blueprint for other manufacturers, but none has yet perfected the form and function of this fledgling product category.

Pixel USB Type-C earbuds now available on the Google Store for $30

Tuesday, October 9th, 2018

There were whispers about second-generation wireless Pixel Buds being announced today, but that didn't happen. As previous leaks suggested, the Pixel 3 comes with USB Type-C earbuds, so you aren't limited to using the included headphone jack adapter. If you lose your earbuds or you aren't buying the Pixel 3 at all, you can now get the earbuds separately on the Google Store.

The 'Pixel USB-C earbuds' are fairly basic, but they can play "24-bit digital audio" and feature adjustable loops (like the wireless Pixel Buds).

Nokia unveils True Wireless Earbuds and Pro Wireless Earphones

Friday, October 5th, 2018

HMD Global just announced its latest hardware at a swanky event in London, leading with the intriguing mid-range Nokia 7.1 smartphone. The company also introduced some literally-named companion audio products — meet the Nokia True Wireless Earbuds and Pro Wireless Earphones.

I thought the distinction between earbuds and earphones had been completely forgotten, so well done to HMD for resurrecting it. The True Wireless Earbuds are in the same vein as Earin's M–2 and others, with an impressively small profile and a conveniently-sized case.

RHA TrueConnect are true wireless earbuds with USB-C and 5-hour battery life

Thursday, October 4th, 2018

RHA probably isn't that well known outside audiophile circles, but the Scottish company is renowned for making excellent audio products across various price points. I've often recommended the RHA S500 as a great sounding pair of budget earbuds, for example. True wireless earbuds are the hot product in audio right now though, as we see the headphone jack excluded from more and more phones, so it's good timing for RHA to release the TrueConnect.

Earin M–2 review: Great sounding low-latency earbuds, but not without a few compromises

Friday, September 14th, 2018

Swedish company Earin was one of the frontrunners in developing true wireless earbuds, releasing the M–1 back in 2015. That first generation product had its fair share of issues, ranging from unreliable Bluetooth connectivity to unsatisfactory battery life. The startup that was recently acquired by Will.i.am brand i.am+ is now back with a follow-up it hopes will rectify some of those complaints.

Unlike its predecessor, the M–2 can’t quite claim to be the world’s smallest true wireless earbud anymore, but it does offer a combination of Bluetooth 4.2 and Near Field Magnetic Induction (NFMI) for connectivity, support for AAC, aptX, and SBC, and intelligent noise reduction thanks to 2 microphones on each side.

Master & Dynamic MW07 are premium true wireless earbuds with beryllium drivers and USB-C for $299

Thursday, September 13th, 2018

Perhaps not that well known outside certain circles, New York brand Master & Dynamic creates audio products with a focus on high-end materials and expressive design. Such luxury does not come cheap, with their headline wireless speaker, designed by Sir David Adjaye, selling for an eye-watering $1,800. The MW07 are the company's first true wireless earbuds, and thankfully they won't be quite so pricey.

As with Master & Dynamic's other headphones and earbuds, these have been manufactured with some of the most premium materials available.

Sony reveals new Google Assistant-enabled headphones and smart speakers

Thursday, August 30th, 2018

It was only around a year ago that the general public first began hearing about Google Assistant-enabled headphones (codenamed "Bisto"). In short order, that ecosystem has expanded and now there are several products on the market that feature the voice assistant, including the Bose QuietComfort 35 II, JBL Everest 110GA, and Sony WH-1000XM2. At IFA today, Sony announced its second generation of noise-cancelling Google Assistant-enabled headphones, the WH-1000XM3, plus two speakers that also feature's Google's AI helper, the SRS-XB501g and SRSXB01, and the voice assistant-enabled WF-SP900 wireless sports earbuds.
