Assistant-launching microphone button removed from Pixel launcher in Android P DP5

Thursday, July 26th, 2018

Moving the Google search box to the bottom of the Pixel launcher was a divisive change, although it makes complete sense to me. Android P gets a new auto-rotate icon in Developer Preview 5

Thursday, July 26th, 2018

Google just dropped the fifth developer preview of Android P and there aren't an awful lot of changes for us to pick through. [Update: OTA rolling out] Android P DP5 lands as final pre-release build, factory images and OTAs available

Wednesday, July 25th, 2018

The pace of Android P Developer Previews marches on, and DP5 was just pushed out into the world. This marks what should be the final release candidate developer preview for Android P before its release later in Q3 of this year. Developers and enthusiasts alike should make sure they're prepared for the changes in store.

As a release candidate, DP5/Beta 4 contains all the final APIs and system behaviors developers can depend upon for testing apps, so if you're the app-making sort and you've been holding off testing API level 28 compatibility for your creations, now's the time to do it.

The only phone company faster to update its devices these days than Google is Essential. Like last month, the company is rolling out its own spin on the release candidate-ready DP5 (Beta 3, so far as Essential's numbering goes) a mere hour after Google.
