Monday, January 7th, 2019

In an announcement that would have seemed at home in the year 1990, Google has announced that you can make a design element in your Sheets chart a unique color. For instance, in a bar graph where all the bars are blue, you can make one red (see above). Before you rush to your personal computing machine to try out that innovative new feature, though, note that there's another G Suite update coming as well.

Tuesday, December 18th, 2018

Easy collaboration is a key strength of Google Drive, allowing multiple users to view, comment on, and suggests edits to documents. Until now, it's only been possible to share a Doc, Sheet, or Slide with someone who has a Google account. A new Drive beta feature is going to change that.

G Suite users on the beta will now be able to share a document with an external collaborator who doesn't have a Google account at all.

G Suite adds ‘Activity dashboard’ to Docs, Sheets, and Slides, essentially bringing read receipts to files

Thursday, March 8th, 2018

More and more services are getting read receipts these days, and the latest services to get it seem to be Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides for G Suite users. The feature is called 'Activity dashboard' here, and it can be tweaked by G Suite administrators to control what data is shown.

Google gives a few examples to explain why this is useful, including having an employee check if a coworker has seen a file already, and having an account manager see the best way to follow up with a client based on whether that client has viewed the materials they were sent.

Wednesday, February 28th, 2018

Today is a big day for G Suite customers. Not only did Hangouts Chat finally launch, but Google is adding some new features to other core programs in its office productivity suite. This is all, of course, to help teams respond to their business needs faster by giving them better, easier ways to manage projects.

G Suite adds search within folders along with accessibility upgrades

Wednesday, January 10th, 2018

Google has once again updated its G Suite office applications with some welcome new features, this time for search and accessibility.

In Google Drive, G Suite users can now search within specific folders. On the desktop, a right-click on a folder or selecting a folder from the drop-down menu will offer up a new option to search within that folder. I was frankly surprised that this didn't already exist in such a straightforward way, so I bet it will get a lot of use.
