AMD recently upgraded its GPU software for PC to Adrenalin 2019. It brings with it a lot of new perks, such as the ability to stream your SteamVR games to Daydream compatible devices, but you'll first have to install the Radeon ReLive for VR app, which was just added to the Play Store this morning.

Thanks to some low latency wizardry on AMD's part, you can actually stream your SteamVR games at a 1440x1440p resolution to a Daydream compatible device. An AMD Radeon GPU is necessary.

Standalone Daydream VR headsets will eventually have improved controllers, see-through mode, and more

Saturday, September 22nd, 2018

Self-contained headsets that run Google's Daydream VR platform went on sale earlier this year, and Google has continued to improve them since. Chrome for Daydream became available in July, and now the company has revealed what's next for the platform.

First, Daydream will soon support standard Android applications. These apps will appear as a window in 3D space, and you can click your controller pointer to simulate taps. From the blog post, it sounds like app developers will still have to mark their apps as Daydream-ready for users to install them.

Thursday, September 20th, 2018

Back in July, a standalone version of Chrome finally became available for Daydream VR. You could visit sites or play web-based VR games without ever taking off your headset, and it was the first time standalone Daydream headsets (like the Lenovo Mirage Solo) could access websites. If you're not a fan of Chrome, there's another VR browser you can try - Firefox Reality.

Firefox Reality offers mostly the same experience as Chrome VR.

Google partnering with Labster to make Daydream VR laboratories for students

Thursday, August 23rd, 2018

Labster is a company that develops various virtual labs for schools. The idea is that students can work in simulated environments if a school's real labs are inaccessible (because of time limits, scheduling conflicts, etc), or if they don't have the required equipment. Labster has now partnered with Google to develop over 30 virtual reality labs, using the Daydream VR platform.

"Using Daydream View or the Lenovo Mirage Solo with Daydream, students can do things that previously necessitated a physical presence in a lab, like examining organisms under a microscope and sequencing DNA," Google said in the announcement.

Google Chrome now available on Daydream VR

Monday, July 30th, 2018

Chrome has been able to view web VR content for some time now, but there has always been one problem - you couldn't launch Chrome from the Daydream launcher. In other words, you had to navigate to the desired page on your phone, then put your phone in a VR headset. That's not a great experience, and it leaves out standalone Daydream headsets (like the Lenovo Mirage Solo) entirely.

Google announced today that Chrome is now fully compatible with Daydream, meaning you can open and use Chrome entirely from the VR headset.
