Wednesday, November 14th, 2018

JBL by Harman, one of several audio brands now under the Harman group owned by Samsung, has just announced two new Bluetooth speakers made for parties, reminiscent of something Sony already offers. They're not only huge but also offer their own light shows — just in case your house party wasn't already the hottest ticket in town.

There are two sizes available. The larger JBL PartyBox 300 has a 10,000mAh battery promising 18 hours of battery life, while the PartyBox 200 has to be plugged in.

Tuesday, October 30th, 2018

Smart speakers are great, but for the most part, they're stationary. If you sometimes want to bring your Echo Dot out onto the patio, you could run an extension cord — but a more flexible solution would be something like the iHome iAV5, which attaches to the Dot to provide both battery power and improved sound. Right now, it's 20 bucks off on Amazon.

Not only does the iAV5 improve the Dot's sound and mobility, it also lights up in a bunch of different colors (five, to be precise).

When considering a Bluetooth speaker, there are a few criteria you're probably looking for. Ideally, it should sound great, be easy to transport, and last long enough on a charge. Cambridge Soundworks' Oontz Angle 3 Ultra seems to hit all those marks with the added benefit of having a very silly name, and today, it's only $26.99 on Amazon.

The Oontz measures just 6.5 inches, but it's rated for 20 hours of playback, and reviewers are very keen on its sound quality.

A Google Home is far from your only choice if you want a speaker with Assistant support. Tons of companies are making them now — including Riva Audio, whose Arena and Festival speakers are currently on sale for $100 and $200 off, respectively.

As you could probably guess from the pricing, the Arena is the smaller speaker of the two. Riva claims that the Arena reproduces "more of the musical spectrum than any comparable product," which is saying something.

[Deal Alert] Get a UE Megablast speaker for $175 ($125 off) on Amazon

Wednesday, September 12th, 2018

Ultimate Ears' Megablast speaker, by all accounts, sounds great. It's pricey, though, at an MSRP of $299.99. Back in April, we saw it going for $190, which was its lowest-ever price up to that point. Right now, it's even cheaper than that: just $175 on Amazon.

In his review, Richard praised the Megablast's sound quality and sheer volume, noting that the speaker can get "absurdly loud" at full blast.

Ikea debuts Eneby Bluetooth speakers

Monday, April 9th, 2018

Swedish furniture purveyor Ikea has unveiled its first Bluetooh speakers in a line it's calling Eneby. The little guys come in eight- and 12-inch varieties, each available in black or white. The larger speaker has to be plugged into a power source to operate; a rechargeable battery pack is available separately, but it's only compatible with the smaller model.

The eight-inch speaker comes equipped with a handle for added portability (Ikea recommends taking it on a picnic) and costs $49; the 12-inch is more of a stationary affair and runs $89.
