Nova Launcher 6.0 beta 5 can launch Google Assistant directly from the search widget [APK download]

Friday, October 12th, 2018

Nova Launcher 6.0 beta 5 just launched yesterday, and while not a major update, it does include a couple of notable features. First, as the title of this post says, you can now launch the full Google Assistant directly from the search widget on the homescreen. It's not enabled by default, though, so you'll have to go digging into the settings to locate the slightly obscure toggle. To do so, launch the Nova Settings apps, go to 'desktop,' hit 'search bar style' about halfway down the list, then scroll all the way to the bottom of the following menu.

There have been battle royale games in the past, but none of them inspired quite the same level of fanatical devotion as Fortnite. This game has become a phenomenon on computers and game consoles, and the mobile versions are off to a good start. The Android version launched a few weeks ago as an invite-only beta, but now it's open to all players.

Anyone with a compatible Android device can head over to the Epic Games website and pick up Fornite.

Fortnite players on Android will be able to play with PS4 users starting today

Wednesday, September 26th, 2018

Thanks to an extended Fortnite cross-play beta that launches on PlayStation 4 sometime today, Android players will finally be able to team up with their PS4 buddies. Cross-play is, of course, a feature that's already available to Android users, but now that Sony is finally concentrating on cooperating with competing gaming platforms, everyone can finally play together.

According to John Kodera, the president and CEO for Sony Interactive Entertainment, "an open beta beginning today for Fortnite will allow for cross-platform gameplay, progression and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems." This is surprising news as Sony has not cooperated in the sphere previously, and had actually taken a hard line on not supporting the feature.

Snapchat’s Android overhaul is now rolling out to a wider audience, but some features are still missing

Wednesday, September 26th, 2018

Snapchat's Android redesign started cropping up for some users a few weeks ago with the 10.40 beta. By switching on "Snapchat Alpha" in settings, users were able to gain access to the new, much smoother version of the app, announced roughly a year ago in November 2017. The overhauled Android Snapchat was built from the ground up to replace the current app, which has long faced criticism for slow, choppy performance.

Samsung Internet Browser gets design overhaul in v9.0 [APK Download]

Thursday, September 20th, 2018

Since it became available for non-Samsung phones, its Internet Browser app has become a popular alternative to Google Chrome. Compared to the stable version currently served by the Play Store (v7.4), there are several aesthetic differences in the v9.0, seemingly aligning better with the upcoming Samsung Experience 10 update.

 Versions 7.4 and 9.0.

The first noticeable change is that the labels under the nav bar items have been removed and the overflow menu has been replaced by a hamburger in the bottom right, forcing out the bookmarks shortcut.
