IFTTT adds 15 new services, including Hive View, VeSync, and Tailwind

Friday, July 13th, 2018

Automation services like IFTTT are great, but are only useful so far as they support the devices and platforms you're interested in. With hundreds of such options already lined up, IFTTT has a pretty darn solid library of compatibility, but just because it's already so big doesn't mean there's not room to grow. We've been keeping an eye out for all the new additions to the IFTTT support list, and we've got quite a few to share since we checked in with you last.

Tasker v5.2 is João Dias’ first public release, adds Custom Setting, runtime permissions, and much more

Friday, June 22nd, 2018

A few months ago, we heard that Tasker was changing hands. João Dias, known for his impressive work on AutoApps and Join, took over the app and has since spent the last few months learning the ins and outs of his new property. Today marks his first public release, v5.2, and it brings quite a few additions and quality-of-life improvements for Tasker users.

Here's what's new:

  • Custom Setting: A way to change many, many Android system settings with one simple action
  • Runtime permissions: Tasker now asks for permissions when it needs them instead of you having to accept them all at install time
  • Location mode: You can toggle your GPS sensor and change other location related settings
  • Immersive Mode: Hide the status bar, the navigation bar or both; great if you want to hide them at certain times or places for example
  • Authentication dialog: You can protect your sensitive tasks with a system authentication dialog
  • New actions: Now when an action is added or updated, you’ll see a little indicator in Tasker so that you know what new stuff there is
  • Root detection is fixed
  • Wifi Tether action and %TETHER variable are fixed
  • Torch action now available Android Marshmallow or above
  • Take Call action now available for Android Oreo or above
  • Sound Mode: toggle between ringer, vibrate or no-sound in devices that support it
  • Power Mode can now be toggled
  • Icon Color in notify actions is now respected

That's quite a list of new things and fixes. João's highlight is the Custom Setting, which you can see in action in the video below.

IFTTT now plays nice with TiVo and Wiser heating systems

Thursday, February 1st, 2018

A few weeks back we reported that TiVo support for automation service IFTTT was inbound, and enthusiasts would be able to integrate a whole new set of applets into their workflow. Well, that day has arrived, and the new applets even include limited Alexa and Google Home integration. Wiser heating systems have also received IFTTT integration.

Wiser, for the unfamiliar, is an electronic heating solution by the British company Drayton, sort of like Nest's thermostats.

IFTTT adds support for Remember The Milk, Asana, and WeatherFlow

Sunday, October 8th, 2017

IFTTT, the popular web-based automation platform, recently added support for three new services. The new additions to the service are Remember The Milk, Asana, and WeatherFlow smart weather stations. I guess that means you can set lightning strikes recorded by your WeatherFlow weather station to trigger Asana tasks for your employees which, upon completion, add a Remember The Milk reminder to follow up on the lightning strike tomorrow. Ah, the future.

Remember The Milk is a to-do list app, and it's quite well liked, with over a million downloads on Google Play.

IFTTT adds applets for Facebook Messenger

Friday, September 15th, 2017

IFTTT is a powerful automation tool that can link together many of the popular services we all use every day. The possibilities are almost endless with a bit of imagination. The platform has had a bunch of Facebook applets for some time, but the same couldn't be said for Facebook Messenger, until now.

There's certainly an audience out there for Messenger related applets, as this Reddit post proves. A Facebook Messenger page on the IFTTT site has now been put together that offers exactly that.

IFTTT updated with more than 30 new data sources, Google Photos support, and VoIP

Friday, June 23rd, 2017

Late yesterday IFTTT saw a huge update. There are more than 30 new services tied to the automation tool via the new Data Access Project, including a ton of government and travel data sources. There is even a new Google Photos service that interfaces with the platform, as well as a VoIP feature for applets that use the phone service. Now you can set up IFTTT alerts on subjects like the economy and public transit, as well as upload images to Google Photos.

The new VoIP service for phone applets will be helpful for those who are traveling internationally, as you'll be able to set those triggers and actions to occur over data.
