Anki’s friendly Vector robot is getting Alexa support December 17

Thursday, December 13th, 2018

Anki's Vector robot launched in October. The little guy is certainly cute, and it's always had a useful trick or two; it can tell you the temperature outside or set timers, for example. But starting next week in the US and Canada, Vector is getting a whole lot more practical with the addition of Alexa functionality.

Vector will still do all the cutesy toy robot stuff it does now, like playing simple games and reacting to different stimuli with Pixar-like apparent emotion, but it'll also be able to do everything other Alexa-equipped devices do, like controlling smart home gadgets and adding items to your Amazon shopping list.

Amazon finally starts selling Chromecasts, one year after it promised to stock them

Thursday, December 13th, 2018

Amazon pulled the Chromecast from its online store in 2015, after it instated a new rule that only streaming devices that supported Prime Video could be sold. Of course, Amazon itself dictates if Prime Video is available for a given platform, so many saw that as a thinly-veiled attempt to boost sales of Fire TV products. Three years after they were pulled, and a year after Amazon said they would re-appear, Chromecasts are finally back on Amazon.com.

The new Kindle Paperwhite is $30-40 off ($100-$120) right now

Wednesday, December 12th, 2018

Amazon makes the best e-readers around — mostly because Barnes & Noble hasn't refreshed its Nook lineup in years (excluding the recent LCD tablet) and Google never entered the market. New models of the Kindle Paperwhite arrived a few months ago, and now they're on sale for the first time.

The Paperwhite with 8GB storage is currently $99.99 ($30 off), and the 32GB model is $119.99 ($40 off). That extra capacity is mostly for storing Audible audiobooks, which can be listened to over Bluetooth.

This version of the Pixelbook sports a 1.3GHz Intel Core i7-7Y75 dual-core, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. Those specs are overkill for 99% of consumers, but if you're buying a Pixelbook to use Linux and some heavy apps like Android Studio with, this might be worth consideration.

Tuesday, December 11th, 2018

During the week leading up to Black Friday, Amazon discounted several of its Prime Exclusive phones, including the LG V35 ThinQ. We thought that the discount of $350 to $549.99 was pretty solid, but Amazon has bested that price less than a month later. The V35 ThinQ Prime Exclusive is currently $529.99 ($370 off) at Amazon.

It's hard to keep track of LG's V-series phones these days, but the V35 is very well-equipped.
