Taking a page from Kindle, Amazon’s Alexa is everywhere—can Google’s Assistant catch up?

Wednesday, January 17th, 2018

When Amazon upended the publishing industry with the advent of the Kindle, it also paved the way for an approach to luring consumers into a larger sphere of influence, a strategy that is now being successfully adapted for the new age of smart speakers and digital assistants. Both the Kindle and the Echo provide consumers with valuable services, encouraging them to shop and receive content within Amazon's ecosystem. Most of the experiences of its Kindle and Echo hardware also come in the form of apps or services that appear on other manufacturers' devices without additional charge to the consumer, making that connection even stronger.

[Deal Alert] Get a gold-plated Huawei Watch for $252.52 ($497.47 off)

Tuesday, January 16th, 2018

The Huawei Watch was perhaps the best of the first-generation Android Wear devices. Aside from it being the most watch-looking watch (compared to the postage stamp glued to a piece of leather styling of the original ZenWatch), the original Huawei Watch was a solid performer, particularly compared to the second generation. Amazon has slashed the price of the premium gold-plated stainless steel watch with matching band to a third of MSRP.

30 days later, Chromecasts still aren’t available on Amazon

Saturday, January 13th, 2018

30 days ago, Amazon announced that it was in the process of assorting Apple TVs and Chromecasts to start selling them again. Since then, the Apple TV and Apple TV 4K have been available and sold on the site, but the Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra are still showing as "Currently unavailable" from Amazon, with no third-party sellers at all. Even searching for "Chromecast" on Amazon doesn't bring up the product pages linked above, you'd have to know the URL to see them.

Because here's the thing: These tablets are slow. Really, really slow.
