Amazon swoops up mesh Wi-Fi maker Eero as its smart home ambitions grow

Monday, February 11th, 2019

As Amazon continues to flesh out its smart home division (and put Alexa in nearly everything), the company has decided to purchase mesh Wi-Fi company Eero. The savvy acquisition allows the company to potentially broaden its already large connected footprint within customers' homes.

Eero was one of the first companies to usher in mesh Wi-Fi for consumers and is among the chief competitors to Google Wifi. The main benefits of a smart mesh system (in which users put multiple physical nodes around their home) are better coverage and reliability.

Friday, February 8th, 2019

Just a few days after Google's "Dump your valentine" discount, Amazon has come up with its own deals, in time for February 14. These offers are more relevant, though, and are worth considering if you're short of gift ideas. Most of the giant's connected home devices are on sale, including Echo speakers and smart displays, Fire TVs, cameras, and even Kindles.

Amazon's speakers have been marked down several times in the last few weeks, including deals on the Echo Plus and Echo Input, but the retailer is going stronger now to rival Google's bundles.

Choose Your Own Adventure books enter the world of voice AI with new Amazon Alexa skill

Monday, February 4th, 2019

Netflix's recent interactive film Bandersnatch received mostly mixed reviews, but was wholly successful in driving interest in Choose Your Own Adventure-style (CYOA) stories. That was both a boon and a frustration to Chooseco, the owner of the CYOA registered trademark and publisher of the famous book series of the same name. There was finally a resurgence of interest in CYOA stories, but the company didn't feel it was getting proper recognition.
