Blu announces the $50 X Link smartwatch with 2G wireless connectivity

Thursday, May 24th, 2018

Blu is known for selling inexpensive phones that punch above their weight, but the company's new smartwatch seems like a very odd product. The X Link has a 1.1-inch round display, no apps, and 2G wireless connectivity. So, why would you want that? Well, it's only $50.

In case it wasn't clear, this is not a Wear OS device. It's running a much simpler OS that has basic smartwatch features like notification sync, step tracking, and heart rate.

[Deal Alert] Get an Anker PowerCore+ 26,800 mAh USB-PD power bank for $80 ($30 off), 5-port USB-C wall charger for $38 ($16 off)

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2018

Anker's currently got deals on Amazon for all kinds of products to keep your electronics juiced. Two of the best: a three-port 26,800 mAh power bank bundle for $80, and a five-port USB wall charger for $38. Both items support power delivery over USB-C.

We've seen this power bank go on sale before, but not at this price. The bank features two USB-A ports and one USB-C port with high-wattage output, and enough capacity to top off your phone (or Nintendo Switch) six or seven times over.

RAVPower AC 27000mAh 100W Power Bank review: Big battery, low power, good price

Sunday, May 20th, 2018

We spend a lot of time researching the gadgets we use, but often gloss over things when it comes to accessories. That seems to be especially true in the case of power, where most of us just sort of use whatever battery or charger we have on hand—convenience is the most important thing. But if you look into the matter, not all batteries are created equal. Thankfully, RAVPower's 27,000mAh, 110V AC-compatible battery has some decent specs in an inexpensive package, and we've got a coupon that makes it even cheaper.

Google pulls Moshi Type-C charging/audio adapter from Google Store without ever selling it

Wednesday, May 16th, 2018

We live in strange times when many phones have but one port, forcing you to choose between charging and audio. The $45 Moshi Type-C charging/audio adapter promised to let you do both, but Google just pulled it from the Google Store. In fact, it never actually went on sale. It was "coming soon" for six months, and now it's dead.

If we ignore the exorbitant price for a moment, the Moshi adapter seems like a useful doodad.

Google Pay on Wear OS expands to two new countries

Wednesday, May 16th, 2018

Wear OS users in Poland and Russia are now able to use Google Pay on compatible watches, bringing the number of countries with Wear OS/Google Pay capability to seven: those two plus the US, UK, Spain, Australia, and Canada. With both Poland and Russia having a healthy number of financial institutions supported by Google Pay, this is nice news for users in those countries.

Google Clips can now recognize a few new actions, pair with multiple phones [APK Download]

Friday, May 11th, 2018

Google's cute little AI camera, Clips, was made to take pictures at opportune times without human oversight. Previously, it was restricted to triggering at things like faces and poses. Now, though, Google has updated the device to recognize a few new scenarios you may want clips of, as well as pair with more than one phone to more easily share those clips with multiple people.

With the recent update, Clips gains the ability to recognize when subjects are hugging, kissing, dancing, or jumping, and start recording at those triggers.

You can now choose which apps deliver spoken notifications on Pixel Buds

Thursday, May 10th, 2018

The fine folks over at 9to5Google are reporting that the Pixel Buds have gained a feature that allows for spoken notifications to be toggled on or off on a per-app basis. Spoken notifications could already be broadly enabled or disabled, but previously, it'd been a one-size-fits-all situation.

You're still able to turn spoken notifications off altogether, but you can also turn them on or off for each app that delivers them.

[Deal Alert] Factory refurbished JBL Everest Elite 700 Bluetooth headphones are just $69.99 today on Woot

Wednesday, May 9th, 2018

In 2016, we called the JBL Everest Elite 700s' $300 MSRP "a decent price point." Then, in February of this year, refurbished models were going for $120 on Woot. That was a good deal. Now they're $69.99 on Woot, which is a heck of a deal.

You can choose black or white, and shipping is free for Amazon Prime subscribers. Our verdict on the noise-canceling 700s was that they sound nice and they're pretty comfortable, which is generally what people look for in headphones, but the companion app is pretty bad.

New LG Wear OS watch shows up at FCC

Monday, May 7th, 2018

Documentation concerning a new Wear OS watch manufactured by LG has appeared on the Federal Communication Commission's website. The listing doesn't reveal a whole lot, but the watch is described as a "portable wrist device" with a model number of LM-W315. It's possible the filing is for LG's rumored "hybrid" watch that's said to feature both physical hands and an LCD display.

While none of the accessible documents mention Wear OS or Android by name, one does contain screenshots that give it away.
