  • Amazon Echo may land in India this year with regional language support

You’ll be able to converse with Alexa in three regional languages.

Amazon is investing over $5 billion in its Indian unit to turn the website into the largest e-commerce portal in the subcontinent. The retailer rolled out its Prime subscription service in the country last year, and introduced Prime Video a few months ago. Now it looks like Amazon may bring its Echo lineup to India by the end of the year.

That’s according to two anonymous sources speaking to Economic Times. This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about the Amazon Echo landing in India, but ET’s report also states that Alexa — Amazon’s voice-based assistant — will include support for regional languages: Marathi, Tamil and Hindi.

Amazon is said to initially offer Alexa in English, with support for local languages coming shortly thereafter. Alexa has turned into a robust platform over the last two years, with the assistant touting over 1,200 skills — everything from hailing a cab, ordering items on…

  • Amazon’s Prime Day 2017 brings 30 hours of deals starting July 10

Amazon has just announced 30 hours of deals starting on July 10, and the Thrifter team will be covering it all!

Prime Day 2017 will be spread across three days, starting Monday, July 10, at 9 p.m. EST and going until 3 a.m. Wednesday, July 12. The Thrifter team is already gathering all the information you need to know about Prime Day, and they will be on hand to cover this event from beginning to end, with every standout deal posted to the site and on Twitter.

While you can obviously expect the bulk of the deals to happen on Tuesday, June 11, don’t be surprised if they kick off with a few great ones on Monday night. In fact, Amazon will be offering some exclusive deals to people using their Alexa-enabled devices like the Amazon Echo or Echo Dot. Those deals will start at 7 p.m. on June 10, two hours before everything else kicks off. Going even farther back, Amazon plans to drop some other big sales in the week leading up to Prime Day.

Amazon claims this year’s Prime Day event wi…

  • Samsung released a “Walk Mode” app, and it’s terrible

Recently, Samsung’s Indian R&D released a new app called Walk Mode. It’s advertised as notifying you if there is a danger present as you go about your business using your phone while walking. Safety is quite a noble endeavor for Samsung to be pursuing, and I’d like to say that the company’s efforts paid off, but I would be lying.

This particular app release may have flown under your radar, as so far it is exclusive to India.

  • Best Cases for the OnePlus 5 (So Far …)

Keep your OnePlus 5 protected with a case!

After months of hype, the OnePlus 5 is finally here! Whether you’re waiting for your new phone to arrive in the mail or you’ve got it in your hand, we’re sure you’re marveling at it’s gorgeous, all-metal design.

If you’re hoping to keep your OnePlus 5 in immaculate condition, your best bet is a quality case. At launch, OnePlus itself actually offers the best cases available, but we’ve rounded up a few cheaper options from Amazon. We’ll be sure to keep this list updated as more cases become available

    OnePlus protective cases

Assuming you bought your phone through the OnePlus website, you would have seen some of what it has to offer for OnePlus 5. As expected, you can buy some pretty cool style swap covers, which are essentially shell cases designed by OnePlus which are available in Sandstone, Ebony Wood, Carbon Fiber, and Rosewood finishes.

The are super slim cases that add little bulk to your phone, offering just enough around back to…

  • Nest app updated with Cam IQ support, better audio alerts, and more

The Nest app is getting an update today, which makes sense. The Nest Cam IQ is available for purchase, and the app needs some new smarts to keep up with this 4K security camera. Just grab the new version from the Play Store or APK Mirror, and you’ll b…

  • Duo is now asking to integrate with your phone’s call history, but it might not be working yet

Google might be planning on having your Duo calls appear in your phone’s call history. A new prompt is appearing in Duo that asks if you’d like to merge its call history with your phone’s. We found data to support this last month in a teardown of the Duo app, so it isn’t too surprising. Either the switch flipped early for the prompt, or the feature might be coming soon.

I was able to pull up the prompt myself after exiting a call in Duo.

  • Did you know Google+ is 6 years old today?

Are you even still using the social network?

Look, I’d never go up to a six-year-old kid and say, bluntly, “I forgot it was your birthday.” That would probably melt the child’s heart enough to warrant at least a year of therapy when he hits college. But the truth is, I forgot that today was Google+’s birthday (thanks to Android Police for reminding us to send a card).

I didn’t even realize that it’s been around six years. Will it make it to 10?

Part of the reason I’m not as engaged with Google+ as I used to be years ago is that the feature I was most excited about has been effectively removed from the social network. Google Photos is its own thing now, and the photo albums and sharing features I loved in Google+’s heydays are better than ever before.

But the social network is still ripe with thriving communities, whether they be photographers, cooks or Pokémon enthusiasts. Google is still encouraging its developers to get involved in the social network, too, and it even re…
