  • Suggested Sharing is going live in Google Photos for some users

Google Photos is ground zero for the company’s crazy machine learning technology. At Google I/O 2017, a number of new features were announced for Photos, including suggested sharing based on who’s in a certain photo. But for that to work, Google needs to figure out who is who, and now the Photos web app is asking users to identify what they look like.

Upon visiting photos.google.com, you may be welcomed by the above screen.

  • Android O feature spotlight: Dev options has new “Window animation scale” and “Force RTL layout direction” quick settings tiles

We’ve hit most of the high points in our quest to find all the important things in the new Android O beta. Still, there are some little tidbits that will interest developers and huge Android dorks (that’s probably you). If you venture into the developer options, there are two new quick settings tiles to enable: “Window animation scale” and “Force RTL layout direction.”

To enable these, you have to turn on the developer options menu in the usual way.

  • Recently revealed “Cloak & Dagger” Android attack uses overlays and accessibility services to deceive users

    maxresdefault

A new series of vulnerabilities in Android have been discovered by researchers at the University of California Santa Barbara and the Georgia Institute of Technology. Titled “Cloak & Dagger” this new class of vulnerabilities and attack vectors makes use of overlays and accessibility service permissions in Android. These services can potentially allow for a malicious application to perform unwanted actions, including collecting data input on the device and so-called “clickjacking.” The latter term being when a user might believe they are performing one action, but another is occurring beneath a deceptive overlay.

  • What’s on MrMobile’s phone?

As we approach the one-year anniversary of MrMobile’s launch, it seems only right to fulfill one of the most common viewer requests. You see a variation of the question in the comment section of nearly every video: “what’s on your phone, MrMobile?” And while I personally find my app selection really predictable, I figure there’s probably a gem or two in here that some of y’all haven’t heard of yet. So dive on in to the How MrMobile Works catalog to take in my Top 40 Apps video – and if you agree with me that this collection could use some spicing up, drop a comment down below with your top app alternatives!

  • [Hands-on] Pokémon: Magikarp Jump, a solid spin-off that revolves around an often forgotten about Pokémon

I have to admit, Pokémon: Magikarp Jump is not what I expected when I first heard about this title. I had figured it would be a cash grab taking advantage of the Pokémon name, but in all actuality, it is an interesting casual game that just about anyone can enjoy.

The premise starts out simple enough. Mayor Karp of Hoppy Town gives you a fishing pole, which is then used to catch your first Pokémon, a Magikarp.

  • Freelancers wanted: This is your chance to join the value-obsessed Thrifter team!

If you have the gift for thrift and are passionate about finding innovative ways to save and make money, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

You’ve likely noticed the Thrifter name accompanying tech deals content published on Android Central this year, but we haven’t really paused to talk about what Thrifter is and where it’s going. To be frank, that’s because we weren’t ready to. Now we are and we’re super excited to start spreading the word as we get closer to our official launch.

While Thrifter has primarily been in the pre-alpha stage covering daily tech deals to date, our ambition and vision for Thrifter is much, much grander. Behind the scenes we’ve been building a superstar team, attracting top talent from deals and recommendation sites like The Wirecutter and 9to5Toys. Our product and brand teams have also been hustling, and we’ll soon pull the wraps off our new brand and Thrifter.com website (of course Thrifter will also live on all the social media platform…

  • Lyft introduces new Lyft Lux and Lyft Lux SUV black car service

Today Lyft has announced two new black car options for the ridesharing service. They are called, perhaps unimaginatively, Lyft Lux and Lyft Lux SUV. As the names imply, each of the services is meant to be a bit more luxurious than the standard fare. I…

  • OnePlus 3T is being discontinued to make way for the OnePlus 5

You’ll soon no longer be able to buy a OnePlus 3T, but that’s not a bad thing.

OnePlus is so, so ready to launch the OnePlus 5. The company has announced that the OnePlus 3T, its latest flagship, has reached the end of its production life, and will only be sold until current stock runs out.

A lot has happened since we launched the OnePlus 3T back in November of last year. We were thrilled by the response our device received both in the media, and by our users around the world. It’s been far and away our most successful device yet, and we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together. Rest assured that we’ll continue to bring more software updates and support to the OnePlus 3 and 3T.

This is the last call to buy the OnePlus 3T before stock runs out. Only a few devices are left in our warehouse, so purchase yours before time runs out at onepl.us/3T

This doesn’t mean the end of software or security updates for the OnePlus 3 and 3T, just that, being a small company,…
